The Seasonal Youth Counselor is a dynamic member of the onboard youth program and actively promotes the Camp at Sea pillars of Art, Culinary, Recreation and STEM. This position works with the guidance of Youth Program Manager to execute the day-to-day youth activities (ages: 3-17), toddler time, family programming, babysitting and holiday activation. The Youth team is responsible for the successful delivery of the Camp at Sea program, ensuring that all activities and events are operating within Celebrity Cruises Standard Operating Procedures and USPH guidelines. NATURE OF WORK This is entry level seasonal work in the area of recreation, which follows well-established procedures. An employee in this class is responsible for performing or assisting in a variety of leadership or instructional activities at an assigned recreation area. Under immediate supervision, the employee performs tasks, which are learned through previous experience or by on-the-job training. Work is of routine difficulty and includes making recommendations for programs or activities at assigned areas. Since the employee works with a higher level leader the exercise of only limited initiative and independent judgment is required. Job Description • Supervises and instructs assigned classes in the locations and the times designated by the Aftercare Director. • Takes attendance. • Follows the provided schedule and curriculum program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students to which they are assigned. • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning in a creative way and is appropriate to the maturity level of the students to which they are assigned. • Prepares activities for the classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation for these activities on a weekly basis. Assists in the distribution of snacks and clean up. • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. • Maintains a professional attitude at all times. • Participates in dismissal procedures at the end of Aftercare, ensuring that each student leaves with the appropriate adult. (ID is REQUIRED even if they know the person picking up and must be verified with the pick-up list). • Attends all staff meetings and recommended training programs as required. • Supervises all activities to ensure safety at all times. Qualifications: 1. A minimum of one to five years related experience 2. High School diploma or equivalency 3. Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office. 4. NATURE OF WORK This classification involves entry level seasonal work in the area of recreation. Duties are performed within well-established procedures related to the coordination of recreational activities within the City's Leisure Department. An employee in this classification is responsible for performing or assisting in a variety of leadership or instructional activities at an assigned recreation area. Under immediate supervision, the employee performs tasks, which are learned through previous experience or by on-the-job training. Work is of routine difficulty and includes making recommendations for programs or activities at assigned areas. Effective communication skills, the ability to receive, follow and provide oral instructions; utilize tact and courtesy when dealing with the general public and program participants are required. Assignments are normally performed on a seasonal basis at a center, school, or playground/park and may require evening and weekend hours. Work is reviewed through continuous observation while in progress and results obtained upon completion.
