As the Area Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of students across multiple Spectrum School locations by providing tailored clinical and educational interventions designed to meet each learner's unique needs. You'll lead with expertise, guiding and mentoring your team through hands-on training and professional development, while consistently evaluating and elevating their performance. This position works under the support and direction of the Area/Regional VP, Operations and onsite Program Directors to enhance the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes of students through use of evidence-based interventions and in collaboration with the operations and educational staff from each campus within assigned area.
‖ Responsibilities Include:
Delivering comprehensive training and continuous guidance to teachers and educational staff in designing impactful Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and quality of academic instruction and behavioral support services provided to students, ensuring exceptional outcomes.
Supporting Spectrum staff by modeling, reinforcing, and enhancing instructional best practices to promote student growth aligned with Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.
Implementing evidence-based interventions by applying scientifically proven behavioral and educational strategies, promoting positive outcomes in academic, social, emotional, and independent functioning.
Providing crisis management intervention and support for students exhibiting aggressive or self-injurious behavior and developing strategies to reduce the need for 1:1 staffing.
Collaborating closely with on-site education teams to collect and analyze data on student behavior, monitor student progress, and ensure appropriate intervention responsiveness and consistent progress toward goals.
Conducting regular quality checks for each campus within assigned region at the student, staff, classroom, and site levels; making recommendations for improvement based on analysis of data.
Supporting the development of on-site teams within assigned the area through delivery of training on behavioral assessment, intervention, positive behavior supports, data collection, crisis management, and other relevant topics.
Providing guidance and supervision to staff members within assigned region pursuing BACB certification (RBT, BCaBA, BCBA), as agreed with the Program Director or VP of Behavior Services.
Assisting in the development and implementation of improvement plans for assigned campuses to enhance student performance and staff effectiveness.
Engaging in multi-disciplinary on-site and regional team meetings to discuss behavioral needs and contribute to the development of comprehensive support strategies.
Monitoring and ensuring adherence of all campuses to Department of Education regulations and internal standards for educational and behavioral service is maintained within assigned area.
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of assessments, interventions, progress, and compliance activities.
Providing operational support to all schools in the assigned area, focusing on academic achievement, behavioral support, staff retention, and development.
Performing additional duties or special projects as assigned to support organizational goals and student success.
‖ Qualifications Required:
Master's degree or higher in applied behavior analysis, behavioral therapy, special education or a closely related field of study.
Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) credential.
Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an education specialist or special education instruction credential preferred.
Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid CA state driver's license.
Well-versed in applied behavior analysis (ABA) including positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), data-based decision making, and functional behavior analysis (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP).
Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, effective teaching strategies, classroom management, personalized instruction and working with students.
Highly skilled in working with individuals with severe learning, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and/or other related disabilities.
Prior experience and highly skilled in crisis management systems and intervention procedures.
Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).
Proven success in developing and implementing effective intervention plans for students with diverse needs.
Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.

Major Responsibilities:
Direct Clinical Service Delivery
Conducts clinical assessment and intake evaluations; provides individual, couple and group counseling as well as crisis intervention, hospitalization and other emergency response. Utilizes clinical conceptualization, treatment planning, and case management to facilitate clinical effectiveness. Provides mental health consultation and facilitates on and off campus referrals, as needed. Maintains/demonstrates a current command of knowledge in professional counseling theory, research, practice, legal and ethical guidelines, and department's policies and procedures. Employs a variety of therapeutic methods to effectively counsel clients with a full range of psychological issues. Utilizes sound clinical judgment and applies methods appropriate to presenting problems and needs of clients. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competence addressing needs of diverse clients. Applies legal and ethical standards of the profession in executing clinical services. Utilizes consultation opportunities for treatment planning, and to ensure service quality and adherence to legal and ethical mandates.
Provide outreach services, prevention program/activities, consultation, and/or psychoeducation programs to various constituencies on campus (e.g., student organizations, faculty, staff, and/or community affiliates). Some evening and weekend hours are required to provide outreach/prevention events, workshops, presentations, training sessions, seminars, and/or courses to the campus community.
Although most crisis calls are directed to ProtoCall Services, this counselor position is part of the primary after-hours on-call rotation team, if necessary, carrying the crisis phone on average one week per month. The counselor also provides primary crisis coverage in the event of a campus crisis or emergency, and responds as requested by the Director (or designee) overseeing the crisis/emergency situation. While most of the after-hours crisis intervention involves phone consultation only, there may be times when the situation rises to the level where on-site intervention after-hours is necessary. The after-hours on-call rotation counselor duties include, but are not limited to: consultation over the phone with the student and/or impacted individuals, coming to campus after-hours if necessary and timely responding as appropriate to de-escalate the crisis situation, based on the clinician's best clinical judgment, professional standards, and ethics.
In the event where the counselor provides services outside of regular business hours, the counselor and the CAPS Director (or designee) may consider the time taken outside of the normal work schedule and the counselor's proposed adjustment to the work week schedule to an average of 40 hours of work for the impacted work week. The counselor's proposed adjustment of schedule will be subject to the operational needs of the department and approval by the CAPS Director (or designee).
Indirect Clinical Services
Maintains records/case notes pertaining to client caseload and other service delivery. Applies legal and ethical standards of the profession in documentation and record keeping. Attends departmental meetings as scheduled, needed and/or as requested by the CAPS Director (or designee). Develop outreach and prevention programs/activities and psychoeducational programs to various constituencies on campus. Participates in professional development activities/training to enhance job performance. Participates in other activities and committees, as needed, to carry out services within the department as determined and assigned by the CAPS Director (or designee), including taking on additional caseload, generating reports/documents, conducting research or special projects, committee work (i.e. search committees, peer reviews, other campus committees, etc), and/or participating in campus events (including some evenings and weekend hours). When requested by the CAPS Director (or designee), works in collaboration with the Coordinator of Clinical Training to provide clinical supervision to doctoral trainees, including verbal and written feedback in relationship to the trainee's performance, professional conduct, and clinical outcomes with clients.
Some evening and weekend hours may be required to meet workload demands, departmental responsibilities, and to provide quality services.
Minimum Requirements:
* Education in:
* Possession of a Doctoral or Master's degree in behavioral sciences, clinical or counseling psychology; a valid license to practice psychotherapy in the State of California, or eligible to sit for licensure within 6 months of hire. Compliance with all state regulations and good standing with licensing board requirements for professional behavior and conduct.
* Experience in:
* Working in a university and/or college counseling center or experience working with the transitional age youth (TAY) population.
* Brief counseling with individuals utilizing professional therapy orientations, techniques, and strategies and responding to situations with knowledge and understanding of diversity issues and cultural factors.
* Providing mental health services to couples and groups in addition to individuals.
* Crisis intervention and working with a broad range of presenting problems.
* Developing and implementing a broad range of outreach services, including consultation/mediation interventions, training modules, workshops, and presentations.
* Knowledge, skills, and abilities in:
* Demonstrated ability to perform both brief and long-term therapy, and assessment, especially as pertains to the developmental needs of a college student population.
* Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and competence in addressing the needs of diverse clients.
* Knowledge of and ability to apply mental health models and policies/procedures related to the field of psychology.
* Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated ability to make effective oral presentations, facilitate an open exchange of ideas, and write clear and concise clinical case notes, documents, and reports.

Coordinate and supervise OMCP Mentors assigned to the program.
Provide support and additional resources to ensure OMCP Mentors complete the work experience portion of the certification process, including practice of all twelve (12) Core Functions.

Verify and record, by the fifth (5th) of the month, each OMCP Mentor's monthly internship hours accrued during the previous month, utilizing the CDCR OMCP.

Review and ask about other practitioners' involvement in the treatment of these high-risk conditions. Recommend immediate referral to such a specialist in case of need. Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition).
Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned.
Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session.
Review physician notes, following the Medical Directors or Physician Extenders' session with the patient, verifying that they noted and addressed the high-risk factor, or otherwise bring it immediately to the attention of the supervising counselor, as well as the clinic manager, until the matter's proper and professional handling by the physician or physician extender.
Advise, in writing, other staff members (including the clinic manager, supervising counselor, dispensing nurse and front office) of high-risk patients and their condition. Maintain and circulate minutes from treatment team/case conference sessions to the other staff members.
Provide professional counseling and referral services by:
Addressing patients' clinical and special needs by maintaining referrals to specialized (“second tier”) services rendered by physicians, physician extenders and counselors within Aegis, as well as referrals to Keys to Recovery (or other twelve-step) support groups, and other community resources (e.g., agencies and practitioners outside of Aegis), acting as a liaison to these agencies, as necessary.
Providing individual and group counseling as clinically necessary, to address the problem issues identified in the Initial Assessment and Treatment Plans. The counseling service will include protocols for the treatment of Relapse Prevention, Peer Pressure, Anger Management, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Family Preservation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
Utilizing advanced counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.
Scheduling regular counseling sessions with patients; issue patient appointment cards and record scheduled or rescheduled sessions in EHR scheduler.
Documenting counseling entries, including signature and date, as required by applicable federal and state regulations, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle policies.
Engaging in Community Relations and Outreach efforts.
Attending all recommended training including Physician Training of Counselors, RCL training, and case conferences with the program physicians and physician assistants.
Collecting research data when requested.
Observing the collection of patients' urine samples when required

Direct Care Staff will work with Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) youth placed in a 24/7 residential setting by Children and Family Services (CFS)/Probation. As a member of the STRTP Team, the Residential Counselor is vital in setting the tone, direction and priorities of the residents by utilizing a Trauma-Informed Approach.
