Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
* Responds quickly in crisis situations.
* Provides time limited in-home services to meet the specific needs of families by identifying insufficient protective capacities, developing treatment plans, and using appropriate and necessary resources to minimize risk and provide for safety of the child; and maintains contact with parents and children to achieve treatment goals.
* Assesses child safety and takes the necessary actions to protect the child as appropriate. This could include removing a child from their family.
* Interacts objectively with "caretakers" who have abused and/or neglected children in their care.
* Discusses issues with families related, but not limited to income, money management, and personal relationships that they will probably consider personal and private.
* Encounters family members who are angry and/or scared.
* Helps identify resources and community support available to the family.
* Assists parents to recognize behaviors that lead to child abuse and/or neglect and empower parents to identify ways to make the necessary behavioral changes.
* Determines action to be taken to remove or to reduce an immediate threat to the safety of a child to include working with families to identify family members who can assist with keeping the child safe, testifying in court to seek emergency protective services, placing children in substitute care, referring family for immediate crisis intervention therapy or other community resources.
* Gather family and kinship information to support the child in a placement, should the child be placed in DFPS custody.
* Documents all relevant and appropriate information gathered during the investigation and completing all required forms accurately and in a timely manner.
* Works flexible work hours beyond 8a.m.-5p.m., Monday - Friday.
* Maintains a balance of objectivity and empathic understanding when engaging families living in stressful and crisis situations.
* Develops and maintains effective working relationships with law enforcement officials, judicial officials, legal resources, medical professionals, and other community resources.
* Attends and participates in trainings, meetings and staffings.
* Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations.

Additional Information:
This position may be filled at any level from a Child Protective Services Family Based Safety Services Worker Specialist I to a Child Protective Services Family Based Safety Services Worker IV. Factors such as education and experience may be considered when establishing the starting salary.
This position will be in a mobile unit which means the majority of the work will be conducted using mobile technology, such as a tablet, while away from the office. Being mobile requires working independently yet still being responsive to supervision and your assigned unit.

8. Submit a copy of the Individual Progress Summary to the Parole Division to be included in the Parole Case Summary.

Essential Duties:
Provides substance abuse counseling and recovery skills training; participates in offender orientation, educational and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Maintain a Therapeutic Community (TC) within the facility working closely with correctional staff to create a living environment that is peer driven.
Interviews, screens, and evaluates offenders for potential program participation.
Provides a comprehensive evaluation from a battery of valid measurement tools to assess the recovery needs and the re-offense risk of offenders.
Participates in the Individual Treatment Plan based on the severity and characteristics of the offender as determined by the comprehensive assessment, review of collateral information, and the Clinical interview.
Maintains offender records and other records regarding services provided to include workload statistics; and compiles data and submits reports and related documentation as appropriate.
Implements follow-up and after care plans for offenders that participate in the program prior to their release; and disseminates information on community resources for offender placement in follow-up treatment.
At the conclusion of the program, an Individual Progress Summary will be developed for each offender on caseload to reflect the evaluation results together with comments about the offender's level of participation and quality of completion in the SAFPF/IPTC programs.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) required.
Must have a current letter of registration as a Counselor Intern (LCDC-I) from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) OR current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional Applicant Status (CCJP-A) as approved by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals.
Select applicants must obtain the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license or the Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) certification within five (5) years from the date of their registration as a Counselor Intern or CCJP-A.
Must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement (CCA) that will remain in effect only until the initially established expiration date. Failure to comply with the CCA will result in separation from employment. CCAs will not be extended or renewed as a result of an employee's separation from employment or acceptance of another position.
Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
Must successfully complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) as well as TDCJ approved annual in-service training requirements and background checks.
Must maintain Counselor Intern status or CCJP-A certification for continued employment.

Position Summary:
Reports to the assistant program director. Responsible for performing education work with the cognitive intervention program. Work involves planning, coordinating, and implementing activities; and coordinating with other departments to ensure the maximum utilization for resources available in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.
Essential Functions:
* Provides didactic sessions according to designated curricula within the program
* Presents cognitive intervention education and life skills classes to assist inmates with basic education on these topics using a variety of teaching techniques
* Guides and assists inmates in complying with facility rules and regulations
* Supervises client inmate work functions in accordance with program policies such as morning wake up routines according to established schedules. Notifies appropriate personnel of inmates fail to comply with policy and procedures
* Monitors inmate behavior and reports incidents, inappropriate or unusual behaviors to appropriate treatment team staff
* Maintains inmate records and other records regarding services provided to include workload statistics; and compiles data and submits reports and related documentation as appropriate
* Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques
* Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/ her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Associate's degree in the field of psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, criminal justice, education, nursing, or health preferred; experience is a plus.
* Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs preferred.
* Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements:
* Must complete a total of 124 hours training in Correctional Awareness Training (CAT), training for trainers (T4T), and Cognitive Intervention Programming (CIP).
* Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
