What You'll Be Doing
Deliver in-person crisis intervention and evaluations across Skagit County

Mental Health Professional (MHP) status per WAC

Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications:
* HS graduate or equivalent required;

Position Summary:
Full-time Group Life Counselor position available for our Visions Youth Treatment Center in Bellingham, WA. Visions is an inpatient rehabilitation center designed to provide culturally sensitive chemical dependency services to high-risk adolescent females who require care and empathy to help in dealing with substance use disorder.
This is an entry level position that is part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team providing direct services to patients in a residential setting. Direct services may include the following: group, care, intake procedures and evaluation, individual and group counseling, milieu management, and supervision of patients. Services are provided to high-risk, co-occurring substance use and mental health.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the Chemical Dependency Professional/Trainee in providing and referring clients to other treatment /service programs in the facility and in the community as needed.
Monitors the clients, log all activities in the log book, do laundry for youth clients, clean up, and be responsible for graveyard shift activities. Group Life Counselors will also assist counselors: They will attend groups with clients who are more volatile to provide extra support, attend AA meetings with clients, and monitor clients while the clients are completing housework and during quiet time. They will serve food if necessary.
Able to identify and categorize each patient's age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
Provides all physical care of patients required to meet their physical and emotional needs, consistent with agency policy and applicable licensing WAC's.
Completes daily logging, Extraordinary Incident Reports (EIR's), medication logging, etc. on time and accurately.
Other duties assigned as necessary by supervisor.
Education and/or Experience:
AA in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services or related field is required.
Candidate must have at least one-year experience working with high-risk or in treatment patient care.
BA preferred. Will be required to follow other instructions/duties as assigned by supervisor.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization, and willingness to contribute to the group and team overall.
Proficiency in MS Office products and other medical software and electronic processes is a plus.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.

Due to the nature of working on military installations or related worksites, counselors may need to comply with various site-specific requirements to work at designated locations.
Environment:
At the direction of the Department of Defense, duties are performed in multiple indoor locations (approximately 60%) and outdoor locations (approximately 40%). The indoor locations are located within a school setting controlled by the state and/or Department of Defense Education Activity. The outdoor locations frequently involve traversing over uneven grassy, gravel, and/or dirt areas, ascending/descending stairs, and exposure to the weather.
Licensure Portability

Under the recent National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), licensed Military and Family Life Counselors may provide non-medical counseling services to military families at any location in a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a territory or possession of the United States, regardless of which state the counselor is licensed in. Within the scope of the MFLC program, a counselor may hold any independent and clinical license recognized by the Secretary of Defense as an appropriate license for the provision of non-medical counseling services.
Minimum Requirements:
A master's degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
The candidate must hold a valid independent license in the mental health field from any US state or territory (LCSW, MHC, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist).
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must be able to pass a basic background check for employment, a Child National Agency Check, and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance.

Work directly and indirectly with identified students to substantially increase their prosocial academic performance and behavior. These are students who have been identified by building based teams as requiring substantial supplemental behavioral intervention (Tier II, and Tier III).
Provide training support and supervision to specialized paraprofessionals serving buildings and individual students. This will be done in collaboration with School Counselors, Special Education teachers, School Psychologists and Building Administration to increase fidelity and effectiveness of supports.
Under the supervision of Special and Support Services Administration, the Behavior Support Specialist will provide diversified professional development activities specifically designed for targeted audiences: General Education teachers, Special Education teachers, Related Services Professionals, Paraprofessionals, Administrators and parents.

Depending upon individual assignments, the Behavior Support Specialist performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Staff Support
Work cooperatively with building administrators and teaching staff to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development and coaching to implement and maintain evidenced-based, positive behavior support systems and positive learning environments at the classroom and building wide level (trauma-informed practices, evidenced-based intervention strategies, interpersonal skills, problem solving, group process and mediation skills).
Uses collaborative and evidenced-based approaches to promote the reintegration of students to the classroom and building community
Be willing to be trained in Right Response and become a Right Response trainer for the district if needed.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
Promote the effective use of highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which "at risk" students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice
As a joint venture with the teacher(s), develop a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understandings
Individualized Student Support:
Works with students, staff, and parents to assess needs for the creation and development of behavior intervention plans for students with intensive support needs.
Demonstrates substantial ability in interpreting behavioral assessments, Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans and data collection for the purpose of developing Behavior Plans.
Monitor the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans by the Behavior Support Assistants, or other staff as appropriate. Develop staff capacity for data-based decision making with regard to prosocial student behavior skill development.
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Parent / Community Liaison Support:
Develops and plans appropriate communication and training for parents and community
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other district specialists and community agencies (behavioral health, law enforcement, etc.) which enhance supports to families.
Program Evaluation Support:
Develops and implements district level data collection and analysis.
Provides regular program evaluative feedback with suggested plans for improvement in targeted areas of concern to the building administration.
Other:
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills
Attend staff and other professional meetings as may be assigned or necessary.
Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, parents and district staff, maintaining ongoing and open communication.
Possess knowledge of and adheres to School District Policy and Procedures.
Use technology for communication, presentations, trainings, and workshops.
Participate in special projects as assigned and perform related duties and key responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Responsibilities

Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS) is a unique organization within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) that provides readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active military Service members whose service was in support of combat operations, who suffered a military sexual trauma, provided direct emergent medical care or mortuary services to casualties of war, or who served as a member of an unmanned aerial crew that provided direct support to operations in a combat zone or are of hostility, and their families. The incumbent of this position serves as a RCS Vet Center Director (VCD), Marriage and Family Therapist Program Manager. Duties of the VCD, Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Program Manager include but are not limited to:
* Supervising a multidisciplinary staff composed of clinical and administrative team members, whose primary mission is to provide direct readjustment counseling to eligible individuals in the areas of suicide prevention, crisis intervention, short- and long-term treatment for symptoms associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and readjustment issues;
* Planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating professional services rendered by subordinates;
