Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team and in the development and review of the plan of care for all patients.

Prepare the patient to cope with the changes and the chosen family to support the patient including education on advance directives/advanced care planning

The Counseling Center serves all students, including those who are facing personal and educational challenges as well as those who are undecided in their major and/or career. We strive to support these students by promoting a holistic sense of self and wellness by providing personal, educational, and career counseling as well as Human Development courses and workshops. BC Counseling Center's Holistic Approach to Mental Healthcare
At the Bellevue College Counseling Center, mental health and well-being are central to everything the counselors do. This focus is embedded across their workshops, outreach events, and classroom visits, where counselors share information about available services and address topics such as stress management, test anxiety, and other mental health-related concerns. They also engage with students at various campus events by staffing informational tables.
Counselors extend their support into the classroom by teaching Human Development (HD) courses, which emphasize mental health and student success topics such as self-esteem, stress management, learning strategies, personal relationships, motivation, assertiveness, and career exploration. These classes provide a structured and supportive environment for students to explore issues that are often discussed in individual counseling, but in a way that may feel more approachable due to the stigma surrounding one-on-one mental health services.
In addition to working directly with students, counselors consult with faculty and staff to support students who may be experiencing emotional challenges. These consultations help equip college personnel with the psychological insight needed to better assist their students.
The Counseling Center offers a full range of direct services, including individual counseling for personal, academic, career, and crisis-related concerns.
Essential Functions
An internship student at the Counseling Center performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the Site Supervisor. The internship student will receive at least one-hour of weekly individual clinical supervision with a licensed mental health counselor and/or licensed psychologist. The internship student also has the opportunity to participate in the Counseling Center's weekly staff meetings and case consultations.
Below are the typical duties of an internship student:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (to be completed within timeframes outlined by the Branch Director):

Determines a family's ability and capacity to parent an adopted child by conducting pre-home study meetings as requested, reviewing and assessing agency-requested information, evaluating the family's knowledge and perceptions of adoption, teaching adoption education courses as needed, and conducting psycho-social assessments of family members.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
As directed, assist with the admission process; facility tours, inquiries, interviewing prospective residents, families or responsible parties
Make arrangements/appointments for personal care issues/items such as hair care, transportation to appointments and arrangements to obtain requested adaptive equipment, clothing and personal items
Participate in quality assurance programs, as directed
Maintain contact with family members and attending physicians for invitations to care plan meetings and/or other appropriate communication as requested
Document on social service log all contact and referrals
Assist in resolution of grievances and theft and loss issues as requested
Assist residents/families in completing various forms and applications, including advance directives, Medi-cal applications, voter registration, etc.
Participate in Behavior Management programs as directed
Attend facility in-service and staff meetings as directed

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24 hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.

The psychology resident position is designed for a doctoral graduate of a psychology program who is seeking licensure and is interested in combining clinical work with outreach and consultation in a university counseling setting.
Under general direction and supervision of the Counseling Center Associate Director, the psychology resident:
- Provides short-term individual and group mental health counseling to students who seek assistance with resolving personal issues that may impede their academic success, personal wellbeing, as well as developmental issues associated with life transitions and life purpose.
- Provides outreach workshops to students to increase their knowledge, skills, and awareness regarding emotional well-being and mental health. Provides training workshops for faculty and staff to increase their knowledge and skills to identify distressed students, engage with the student and make effective referrals to the Counseling Center.
- Provides crisis, short-term individual, and group counseling to Cascadia College students as defined in MOU between Univeristy of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College.
This position provides mental health counseling to currently enrolled students. This position serves as a resource to the university community by providing consultations, education, and information to faculty and staff regarding the behavioral and emotional well-being of students. Collaborates with faculty and staff in the provision of mental health and other wellness outreach activities.
**Job duties:**
+ Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students on who present with a broad range of mental health issues and diagnoses. Provide crisis assessment & intervention; provide consultation and outreach to students. Conduct neurodivergent screening to students who have questions about potential ADHD or Autism diagnosis that impede their academic success. Maintain client data and records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
+ Design, market and conduct non-credit workshops or courses on mental health-related topics that decrease risk factors and increase protective factors for the student body. Collaborate with faculty, staff and students to identify topics for workshops, seminars, and retreats related to skill development, self-discovery, life transitions, life purpose, and wellness.
+ Engage in individual supervision and case conference on weekly basis to consult on clinical and professional development issues.
+ Provide consultation and guidance to faculty, staff, as well as parents when they have concerns about a student's behavior or emotional well-being.
+ Actively participate in student affairs, wellness activities and other related programs.
+ Stay abreast of legal and practical issues related to the counseling field. Serve and participate on Student Affairs or University of Washington Bothell committees as requested. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Completion of a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or the degree requirement from an APA-accredited program in counseling or clinical psychology before the position start date. Completion of an APA or APPIC-accredited internship
+ One year of relevant counseling experience with young adults, preferably in a higher-education setting.
**Additional Requirements:**
+ Demonstrated experience in providing therapy to an outpatient setting for clients who present with a wide range of presenting issues and clinical diagnoses.
+ Strong crisis assessment and intervention skills.
+ Demonstrated experience providing therapy to individuals with a wide range of backgrounds while practicing from a foundation of cultural humility.
+ Experience in designing and delivering effective psycho-educational workshops, outreach, and community intervention.
