This internship is specially designed for BSW students to acquaint them with the basic operations of a community outpatient mental health clinic, serving both adults and youth. Students will support clients in the clinic enrollment process, assisting them with the completion of consents, releases, advanced directives, screening assessment, insurance authorizations, among other intake tasks. PRP Direct Care Staff/Counselor Responsible for assessing client's needs and capabilities, providing supported living services, supportive counseling, skills enhancement and crisis intervention to facilitate progress towards rehabilitation plan goals and integration into community life. The PRP Direct Care Counselor works in the community, home, and office-based settings with individuals (youth and adults) suffering from mental health challenges. Services provided are individualized and based upon a detailed client needs assessment. Specific Responsibilities: Provide a minimum of 4-6 direct service sessions, per client, per month as planned for by the rehabilitation team (PRP worker and Rehab Specialist) and client. In this role, you will: Provide individual, family and group therapy services for a culturally diverse population of adolescents and their families. Individual services may be targeted towards the youth or parent based on needs assessment. Families referred often also have a history of trauma and violence in the home, communities, and/or countries of origin including gang violence, community violence, sexual assault, and family violence which has complicated the reunification and requires therapeutic intervention. Collaborate with the case manager and/or group facilitator to ensure holistic service provision. Provide workshops and groups in schools and community-based settings. Ensure that service delivery is performed in accordance with the NVFS mission, agency policies and procedures, case management model, and project requirements. Perform other indirect service activities that may include: program development, community outreach, or Agency committee work. Prepare statistical and narrative reports as required Participate in regular individual (administrative and clinical) and group supervisions as directed by supervisor. Assure confidentiality policies and procedures are followed to protect the rights of clients, that reports to authorities occur in the mandated time frames and that critical incident reviews related to these procedures are completed and filed. Maintain client files in accordance with program/licensing requirements and NVFS guidelines. Participate effectively and positively in required Program and Agency meetings and trainings. Your Background: We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field At least one (1) year of clinical experience in trauma focused psychotherapy such as work with torture survivors; victims of sexual offenses, domestic violence or any other trauma survivors; and work with families around attachment. Experience providing services to immigrants and recently reunified families and adolescents preferred. Oral and written fluency in English; Spanish language fluency required. Additional language skills always welcome. Opportunity time frame: Exact dates are flexible based on school requirements. We require a commitment of 3 days per week for an internship, typically 9am-3pm. Practicum students typically complete two 5 hours days per week. Eligibility requirements: Advanced year Master's of Social Work students or Master's of Mental Health Counseling students. Learning model: Interns will co-lead group therapy sessions with a licensed social worker or professional counselor as well as provide individual counseling to an assigned caseload. Interns will also have the opportunity to provide support and practice de-escalation skills "in the moment" when students are in need of support. Weekly clinical supervision is provided by on-site LCSW-C. Student expectations: Student expectations include motivation to engage and learn in a fast-paced environment, ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting and use supervision effectively and seek out feedback to strengthen professional development.
