Program Overview
Multisystemic Therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic model designed to provide community-based treatment for the families of juveniles who are involved, or at risk of being involved, in the juvenile justice system; thereby reducing their risk of being placed outside of the home. MST focuses on treating the youth (12 - 17 years of age) within their natural ecology by addressing the multisystemic factors that impact their behaviors within their family, peer group, school setting, and community. As an MST Family Counselor, you would engage their primary caregiver and other key participants across the systems in developing and implementing interventions to improve school attendance and performance, decrease substance use, increase prosocial connections, and improve family functioning.
Position Overview
Carries a caseload of 4-5 families. Intensive treatment requires counselor to meet with each family at least three times per week.
Develops individualized treatment plans for each case. Ongoing assessments and reviews of treatment progress are performed on a regular basis
Documents all sessions within a pre-established cycle time. Documentation is web-based and most locations provide voice-recognition technology.
Providing after hours support to youth and families utilizing a rotating on-call schedule
Drive up to 60-80 miles to meet with families in the home
Counselors provide treatment in individual families' homes in a wide array of settings and communities
Works closely with multiple types of clinical supervision provided in individual and group settings led by trained and licensed MST professionals. Review of progress generally occurs at frequent intervals.
Develops strong community relationships and resources with which to provide families as part of treatment.

Schedule is flexible and non-traditional; based around the availability of youth and families served.

Experience and Skills
The CFS Clinical Specialist position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a human services field (social work, psychology, counseling, etc.) leading to eligibility for QMHP registration with the Board of Counseling. Master's degree is preferred. Experience working with children and families is required. Supervision for licensure/certification may be available for eligible applicants. Job Description
The main focus of this Programs position at the Haysi Jail Facility is to create an environment which provides inmates the opportunity to maximize their abilities in selecting rehabilitative tools which can be taken with the inmate upon his/her release. Provides leadership to and organization of new and current programs for inmates including an intensified curriculum in a classroom setting. Provides testing of inmates for a variety of programs; develops and prepares curriculum for subject matter; conducts class programs using groups, lectures, A/V materials and handouts; evaluates inmate progress through classroom observation, testing and case file documentation; provides individual and classroom counseling and/or crisis intervention counseling if necessary; evaluates inmate progress and determines if reclassification is necessary; assists inmates with community resources links; may interview and classify inmates during initial intake screening for housing/work assignments and program placement; may assist in coordinating inmate worker program.
Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Services or other related human services field (Social Work, Psychology) and two years work experience in individual and group interaction preferred. Detention or security facility setting experience helpful. Effective verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse population from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Spanish-speaking abilities helpful. Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Corrections Standards for Local Jails and Lockups helpful. May be required to complete and pass law enforcement training.
