The Crisis Assessment Counselor is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team working with clients in an outpatient mental health setting. While promoting the health and wellness of clients, the crisis assessment counselor completes a comprehensive assessment and determines the appropriate level of care and develops a stabilization plan for clients presenting in crisis. Clients present with complex medical, mental health, substance use, social service needs and psychosocial needs. The Crisis Assessment Counselor collaborates with the internal interdisciplinary team, the local hospitals, and a client's support system (when appropriate) regarding the mental health needs, diagnosis, symptoms, and lethality of a client's current condition. The Crisis Assessment Counselor coordinates referrals to community and mental health service providers as needed. When clients need a higher level of care for mental health or physical health needs, the crisis assessment counselor works with the Team to ensure the transfer and collateral information is provided to the entity accepting the client.
Essential Job Functions
* Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic's mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Maintains competency in all organizational and departmental standards as it relates to the environment, employee, client safety or job performance. And practices the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and Community Crisis Center.
* Assessment and Interventions to assist in the determination of a diagnosis and the level of care needed to admit a client to CCC stabilization services or to refer clients to other organizations for psychiatric care or community sheltering.
* Responds to telephone crisis calls and accepts referrals from other organizations, hospitals, and law enforcement.
* In collaboration with the CCC Team members evaluates, plans, organizes, implements, and documents safe therapeutic client care consistent with Crisis Center values/goals and Billings Clinic departmental policies and procedures and those of the CCC also. Consideration will be given to cultural diversity needs and the appropriateness of care based on each individual client.
* On occasion, may provide collateral information to assist Billings Clinic with involuntary detention and commitment to assure compliance with state laws and Billings Clinic policies and procedures.
* Utilizes interviews, the client's support system, and client record reviews to identify barriers, set proper goals, minimize anxieties and maximize client cooperation in resolving their immediate crisis.
* Develops collaborative relationships with the Billings Clinic Psychiatric Team. Also works closely with the CCC interdisciplinary team to provide the best care possible.
* Interviews clients and their support systems, when applicable, in order to set proper goals and minimize anxieties and maximize cooperation.
* Demonstrates positive, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with clients, families, visitors, physicians, staff, and others.
* Helps clients cope, accept, and adjust to issues related to mental health and substance use.
* Reviews the client record to identify environmental impediments and works with team members to resolve.
* Discusses goals and stabilization plans with clients and their support system to maximize compliance in meeting the goals.
* Performs duties to support CCC's goals and objectives in its effort to provide the least restrictive care in the most cost-effective system of care. Will only transfer to a higher level of care when the client is not appropriately served within the CCC or when the client will not agree to stay voluntarily at the CCC.
* Maintains basic knowledge regarding insurance benefits and reimbursement and completes all client billing sheets in a timely manner to ensure reimbursements.
* Assists with internal auditing by completing peer counselor chart audits as directed by the CCC Supervisor. Will also comply with any necessary corrections, in a timely manner, on his/her own charts if there are corrections warranted.
* Coordinates with internal discharge coordinator and coordinates necessary referrals to ensure services are in place. Provides the paperwork in a timely manner for the discharge coordinator. Monitors the need for revisions in the stabilization plans and makes recommendations to the interdisciplinary team. Modifies stabilization plans to comply with changes in a client's situation or needs.
* Monitors the need for revisions in a client's goal and works with other CCC counselors to modify goals and ensure the client can comply with care that is consistent with their current stage of change. Provides documentation and justification when a client goal is modified. Documentation will be timely, reflect professional practice and consistent with CCC policy.
* Takes a lead role in debriefing crisis situations within the CCC when a stressful incident occurs with clients, employees, and or security.
* Maintains competency in departmental policies and processes that are relevant to the performance of the counseling position.
* Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or client safety standards relevant to job performance
* Takes responsibility for the identification of own professional growth and development needs; meets all system/departmental educational requirements.
* Adheres to department and organizational policies addressing confidentiality, infection control, patient rights, mental health ethics, disaster protocols, and safety.
* Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
* Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, open minded and adaptable to change
Minimum Qualifications
Education
* Master's degree in counseling, social work, or an equivalent human services field may be considered.
Experience
* Prefer a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a clinical setting with the same or similar duties and expectations of this position.
Certifications and Licenses
* Must have a minimum of a provisional counseling license and the ability to obtain a regular license within 1 year of the date of hire.
* If entering as a licensed person from another state, must be able to obtain a Montana license.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.

Position: Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) Job Classification: Non-Exempt Reports To: Treatment Services Director Supervises: Partial supervision over residents and other assigned personnel as necessary to perform related duties. Position Scope: Up to 250 Residents participating in a Residential Re-Entry Program. Position Summary:The Great Falls Pre-Release Center is a non-profit Community Corrections worksite consisting of three Counseling campuses. The campuses are minimum security and residential in nature, housing closely screened and selected for program acceptance, adult male and female felon offenders during their structured transition program for re-entry into the community. The Center also operates a Jail Alternative program for adult male/female clients and a Community Service program involving adjudicated males and females. The Center performs work which involves the application of principles and practices of the Licensed Addictions Counseling (LAC) or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) profession. The LAC provides a variety of basic counseling services and performs related duties. Key Responsibilities and Duties:1. Participate in staffing and training sessions. 2. Conduct intake evaluations and assessments. Assist residents with formulation and presentation of proposals concerning special individual/group needs and activities. Work closely with Mental Health staff to help identify co-occurring disorders and formulate suitable treatment plans.3. Provide treatment in both group and one on one session's regarding Chemical Dependency (CD) or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) issues. Make referrals to a variety of social services and medical resources as needed. Provide emergency and crisis intervention services as needed.4. Secure professional data, interpret and evaluate the data, develop recommendations and write clear and accurate reports. Maintain complete clinical records on all clients.5. Provide consultation to other staff members as requested and participate in staffing of cases. Participate in staff training and attend staff meetings. 6. In conjunction with Program Manager, Treatment Services Director, Treatment Coordinator, Executive Director, and Board of Directors, assist in the development of new programs and policies.7. Provide consultation and education services to individuals, agencies, institutions and groups as assigned. Assist with developing contractual service agreements with other agencies.8. Accept assignments as necessary at the direction of the Executive Director, Treatment Services Director, Program Manager, or Treatment Coordinator. 9. May participate in screening process of new referrals to the Center as requested. Must be willing to work with residents in the Medically Assisted Treatment program. 17. The reasonable demands of this position require that if the counselor has been diagnosed as chemically dependent by a LAC, he or she must have two years or more of current, continuous sobriety. This requirement is job related and consistent with business necessity due to the nature of the addiction work performed by the counselor. 18. Will work directly with adult offenders in a residential or community corrections facility.19. Will facilitate individual sessions and develop individual treatment plans with residents to address substance use disorders.20. Will facilitate groups and programming in line with agency approved models. 21. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills:· Education must be sufficient to meet all requirements of eligibility for licensure by the State of Montana. · Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related filed and two years experience in CD or SUD treatment. · Completion of a one-year addiction counselor training program is suggested. · Montana State Licensed Addictions Counselor Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, certifiable within one year, certified in another state which is transferable, or Nationally certified. · One year's experience as an addiction's counselor is preferred. Ideally this experience will have taken place in the field of corrections and/or rehabilitation.· Thorough knowledge of the field of chemical dependency or substance use disorder and of local community resources available for the ongoing treatment. · Must have ability to design, organize, and implement an individualized treatment plan for each resident. · Must have ability to organize and manage time effectively and to keep records orderly and up to date.· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with center staff, Board of Directors and community-based agencies.· Effective verbal and written communication and must maintain a mature and empathic personality. The Transition Center is designed as a structured pre-release program for adult male and female offenders who are within 24 months of parole eligibility or one year of discharge date. It allows residents participating in the program to re-integrate into the community while learning necessary life skills to maintain a crime-free lifestyle. The Center allows residents a period of time to establish employment and/or training, establish budgeting and money management skills, begin a savings plan, find housing and participate in counseling relevant to specific areas to aid in their transition into the community.
The Transition Center has a five-phase program beginning at the orientation level. Each phase has a minimum time frame of participation with graduated levels of responsibility. The resident assumes his/her own case goals as they progress through the program.
The Transition Center opened its doors as a male pre-release facility in March of 1984. At that time, the Center utilized the main floor for office space, kitchen and dining facilities, and a lounge area. the upper floor was used for living quarters. In 1990 the basement of the original facility was remodeled into office space, a conference room, TV room, hobby room and additional restroom facilities. In 1993 the Center undertook a major expansion which more than doubled the capacity and usable space in the Center. A women's program was added in October of 1996 with the purchase and renovation of building adjacent to the existing facility. In 1997 an expansion project involving the women's facility provided for an increase in service rooms and greater flexibility in programming. In 1998 the men's facility added to the wing completed in 1993 by extending that area to the South and increasing the Center by another 7500 square feet.
Throughout the years, the Transition Center has taken pride in its visual improvements to the building and grounds. Landscaping efforts are ongoing as we endeavor to become an appealing addition to the neighborhood.

The Addiction Counselor is a currently licensed LCPC, ACLC or LAC in the State of Montana who has an identified caseload and provides one on one counseling at a minimum of 1 time per week, provides small group therapy sessions and psychoeducation sessions. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, is responsible for development and review of treatment plans, and completing all required documentation. Provides family education sessions as required concerning the family involvement in the process of recovery. Can provide staff coverage in any counseling area in the event of shortages, including intake, assessment, psychoeducation presentations, family sessions, individual sessions, group sessions, discharge planning, crisis intervention and overall case management.
The Addiction Counselor is responsible for and supervised by the Clinical Director.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The person in this position counsels' individuals and provides group educational guidance. The Counselor provides a problem solving service to students, their families and staff. Employee may serve as a member of diagnostic teams or educational planning and placement committees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
