How will I contribute
Deliver individual and group counseling services, case management services, education and community outreach services, and referrals to appropriate services/community resources as necessary.

Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition).
Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned.
Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session.
Review physician notes, following the Medical Directors or Physician Extenders' session with the patient, verifying that they noted and addressed the high-risk factor, or otherwise bring it immediately to the attention of the supervising counselor, as well as the clinic manager, until the matter's proper and professional handling by the physician or physician extender.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities):
Participates in the implementation of one-to-one therapeutic behavioral interventions for children as needed at home, school, or other community-based settings in accordance with the TBS Treatment Plan. Interventions included but are not limited to: social skills training, anger management, anxiety reduction, communication skills, feeling identification, etc.
Participates as a member of the child's treatment team and works closely with all treatment team members regarding matters pertaining to all one-to-one therapeutic behavioral interventions as outlined in TBS Treatment Plan.
Provides immediate behavioral reinforcements (praise, feedback, & token economy), time-structuring activities, inappropriate response prevention, positive reinforcement, appropriate time out strategies, and/or cognitive behavioral approaches to community-based children as part of the one-to-one interventions.
Assists in teaching the parent, caregivers, teacher, treatment team members and other significant support persons in the client's life the strategies and skills in order to help the client meet their goals and be successful in the fade out process.
Maintains an active client caseload of 3-5 clients.
Attends weekly Case Supervision and bi-weekly individual supervision.
Adheres to the legal and ethical requirements of the mental health profession as outlined in the code of ethics and as deemed necessary by the agency.
Maintains organized progress notes for each client contact; submitting notes in a timely manner by the weekly deadline.
Keeps TBS/IHBS Clinical Supervisor, TBS Program Lead, parents, treatment team members, and all necessary others apprised of day to day progress of child. Facilitates decisions that are collaborative and include all treatment team members.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, including psychology, social work or sociology, and six (6) months of experience performing work on a full-time basis providing client care in a mental health setting; or possession of a high school diploma or equivalent degree and two (2) years' experience performing work on a full-time basis providing client care in a mental health setting and/or support services to mental health clients and their families. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have good working understanding of child and adolescent development, behavior management, and family dynamics. Must have aptitude to deal with severely emotionally disturbed children/adolescents in a variety of settings. DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Director, Special Education or designee. Organize and direct activities involved in the development and implementation of behavior intervention programs for individual students and classroom programs according to evidence-based methodologies and procedures for students age 3-22. Coordinate communication and information to meet student needs and train and coach Special Education Paraprofessionals as assigned. Provide training and collaboration for certificated staff and conduct Functional Behavior Assessments as required. The position provides social-emotional and behavioral support for students whose behaviors interfere moderately or significantly in accessing instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Credential: California Pupil Personnel Services (School Psychology) credential or a Special Education credential with an authorization to teach a Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe setting.
Added Autism Authorization or the Autism Authorization embedded in the Special Education credential.
• Education: A Bachelor's Degree
• Experience: Minimum of three years of successful experience working with children with disabilities.
Knowledge of organization and direction of activities involved in the development and implementation of positive behavior methodologies.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal standards and requirements governing behavior management for children with autism and other behavior disabilities.
Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis, Discrete Trial Training and other applicable research-based methodologies.
• Personal Qualities: Resourceful, innovative, helpful, diligent, persistent, and a willingness to work with colleagues and students.
• Additional: Possess First Aid and CPR Certifications within one year of employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL
Develop and implement professional development sessions related to behavior intervention, methodologies along with proactive strategies and reactive procedures; provide modeling of strategies and techniques to staff; train and coach Special Education Paraprofessionals as assigned.
Attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and assist in the development and implementation of IEP goals and behavior intervention plans as appropriate; attend and conduct meetings as assigned; participate in professional development as directed.
Stay current on methodologies, research, and curriculum related to social/emotional and behavioral instruction.
Maintain skills and stay current on technology tools related to student instruction.
STUDENT MANAGEMENT
Maximize opportunities for student success by creating positive mentoring and working relationships with students and colleagues.
Develop, implement, and revise behavior programs for identified students in accordance with best practice methodologies and procedures; provide ongoing monitoring of behavior programs, including individual and group instruction.
Collaborate with and coordinate communications between staff, administrators, and families and outside agencies to assure efficient behavior program implementation; attend team meetings for behavior program oversight; record and distribute meeting notes.
Able to articulate to students, staff and parents what instruction will be necessary to build skills and access their education.
Meet deadlines; maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports as required; follow district promotion policy.

This position supports the mission of Counseling & Psychological Service (CAPS) and Campus Health & Wellbeing through the provision of individual and couples/partner counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation as a member of the CAPS team within Campus Health & Wellbeing. It also includes work with serious presenting concerns, requiring the ability to conceptualize cases and provide diagnoses within sociocultural context.

Key Responsibilities:
Provides orientation to new patients to the programs' rules, policies, procedures, and patients' rights.
Conduct Intakes, Discharge Planning, Initial Assessments, and Initial Treatment Plans professionally and within time guidelines as required by applicable federal and state regulation, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle Policies.
Involve patients in the assessment, treatment planning, and intervention aspects of treatment, which provides the patient with a sense of entitlement to their own recovery.
Administer the biopsychosocial assessment, which evaluates all areas of patients' lives, including their addictions, medical and mental health history, socioeconomics, legal, etc. at intake and on an ongoing basis.
Recognize and utilize patients' Strengths, Needs, Ability, and Preferences (SNAP), to develop and implement individualized Treatment Plans that effectively help patients to meet their short & long-term goals. • Determine the clinical necessity of counseling services based on the clinical assessment and evaluation of the patients.
Monitor closely, and document any change of circumstances with the patients, especially as it relates to matters that may affect their recovery, identifying and addressing relapse indicators to promote relapse prevention interventions in an early stage.
Comply with and implement the Medical Q.A (Quality Assurance) and Clinical Risk Management Policies, including:
Evaluate the patients for any high-risk conditions (e.g., liver failure, pregnancy, overdose, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.), which may endanger the patient (suicidal) or other parties (homicidal).
Administer the BAM-R, C-SSRS, GAD-7, and PHQ-9 screening tools to determine the severity of the patient's mental/emotional status.
Evaluate the risk factors concerning each such case, considering the appropriateness of, and professionalism in treating such individuals in an OTP in comparison to treatment in a residential facility or other treatment modalities.
Review and ask about other practitioners' involvement in the treatment of these high-risk conditions. Recommend immediate referral to such a specialist in case of need. Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition).
Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned.
Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session.
Review physician notes, following the Medical Directors or Physician Extenders' session with the patient, verifying that they noted and addressed the high-risk factor, or otherwise bring it immediately to the attention of the supervising counselor, as well as the clinic manager, until the matter's proper and professional handling by the physician or physician extender.
Advise, in writing, other staff members (including the clinic manager, supervising counselor, dispensing nurse and front office) of high-risk patients and their condition. Maintain and circulate minutes from treatment team/case conference sessions to the other staff members.
Provide professional counseling and referral services by:
Addressing patients' clinical and special needs by maintaining referrals to specialized (“second tier”) services rendered by physicians, physician extenders and counselors within Aegis, as well as referrals to Keys to Recovery (or other twelve-step) support groups, and other community resources (e.g., agencies and practitioners outside of Aegis), acting as a liaison to these agencies, as necessary.
Providing individual and group counseling as clinically necessary, to address the problem issues identified in the Initial Assessment and Treatment Plans. The counseling service will include protocols for the treatment of Relapse Prevention, Peer Pressure, Anger Management, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Family Preservation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
Utilizing advanced counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, etc.
Scheduling regular counseling sessions with patients; issue patient appointment cards and record scheduled or rescheduled sessions in EHR scheduler.
Documenting counseling entries, including signature and date, as required by applicable federal and state regulations, CARF guidelines and Pinnacle policies.
Engaging in Community Relations and Outreach efforts.
Attending all recommended training including Physician Training of Counselors, RCL training, and case conferences with the program physicians and physician assistants.
Collecting research data when requested.
Observing the collection of patients' urine samples when required
Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is a department within Student Affairs & Strategic Enrollment Management that provides a variety of culturally responsive services to help enrolled students understand themselves, enjoy satisfying relationships, achieve academic success, and make effective life choices. CAPS promotes the development of holistic student emotional health and serves the campus through advocacy and the provision of confidential, accessible services. Additionally, CAPS provides outreach, educational services, and campus consultations.
This position supports the mission of Counseling & Psychological Services and Campus Health & Wellbeing through the provision of individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, and prevention education as a member of the CAPS team within Campus Health & Wellbeing located at the Solano Campus primarily serving Cal Poly Maritime Academy students. It also includes crisis intervention and work with serious presenting concerns, requiring the ability to conceptualize cases and provide diagnoses within sociocultural context.
This position is in person, time-limited, and part time. The position will start in January 2026 and end on or before May 1, 2026. Work hours will be between 15 and 19 hours per week on a set schedule primarily between 8 am and 7 pm, as negotiated with the Director of CAPS.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated competence with diversity and intersectionality, and experience addressing the mental health needs of students including those with historically marginalized identities.
Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, and the California Medical Information Act as it relates to the provision of psychotherapy in a university counseling center and confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, provide training to, and consult with the campus community regarding mental health topics.
Demonstrated experience providing brief individual and group psychotherapy to late adolescent and young adult populations including DSM diagnosis.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage clinical crisis situations, including hospitalizations.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Under the direction of the TBS/IHBS Program Manager, is responsible for planning and implementing one-to-one therapeutic contact with community-based children referred to Casa Pacifica through Santa Barbara County Mental Health. The Therapeutic Behavioral Specialist carries out the mission of Casa Pacifica as it relates to individualized behavioral interventions as needed at a child's home, school, or other community settings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities):
Participates in the implementation of one-to-one therapeutic behavioral interventions for children as needed at home, school, or other community-based settings in accordance with the TBS Treatment Plan. Interventions included but are not limited to: social skills training, anger management, anxiety reduction, communication skills, feeling identification, etc.
Participates as a member of the child's treatment team and works closely with all treatment team members regarding matters pertaining to all one-to-one therapeutic behavioral interventions as outlined in TBS Treatment Plan.
Provides immediate behavioral reinforcements (praise, feedback, & token economy), time-structuring activities, inappropriate response prevention, positive reinforcement, appropriate time out strategies, and/or cognitive behavioral approaches to community-based children as part of the one-to-one interventions.
Assists in teaching the parent, caregivers, teacher, treatment team members and other significant support persons in the client's life the strategies and skills in order to help the client meet their goals and be successful in the fade out process.
Maintains an active client caseload of 3-5 clients.
Attends weekly Case Supervision and bi-weekly individual supervision.
Adheres to the legal and ethical requirements of the mental health profession as outlined in the code of ethics and as deemed necessary by the agency.
Maintains organized progress notes for each client contact; submitting notes in a timely manner by the weekly deadline.
Keeps TBS/IHBS Clinical Supervisor, TBS Program Lead, parents, treatment team members, and all necessary others apprised of day to day progress of child. Facilitates decisions that are collaborative and include all treatment team members.
Maintains effective lines of communication with Clinical Team and Program Management in regards to program needs.
Attends and participates in appropriate staff training programs; attends outside training events and conferences as requested.
Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA regulations in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations and children.
May perform any other additional duties as assigned; including but not limited case coverage for other specialists.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, including psychology, social work or sociology, and six (6) months of experience performing work on a full-time basis providing client care in a mental health setting; or possession of a high school diploma or equivalent degree and two (2) years' experience performing work on a full-time basis providing client care in a mental health setting and/or support services to mental health clients and their families. Ability to do behavioral assessments and behavior management, preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have good working understanding of child and adolescent development, behavior management, and family dynamics. Must have aptitude to deal with severely emotionally disturbed children/adolescents in a variety of settings. Ability to use various computer software (Microsoft, Office, Windows, Word, Excel, Access).
