The Mental Health Specialist III performs senior-level highly complex psychological/therapeutic work. The MHS III provides consultation regarding behavioral interventions for patients across the hospital. Work involves performing psychological activities, including individual, group, and/or family therapy with patients referred from assigned unit and/or from other units, conducting individual and group sessions that help patients gain knowledge and develop skills to aid in their recovery or efforts to regain competency, and developing individual behavior plans to address problematic behaviors such as aggression, self-harm, intrusiveness, etc. This position evaluates and coordinates projects and program alterations to examine evidence-based practices to reduce workplace violence and increase the overall quality patient care in the hospital. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
This position may also be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on maximum security locations.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

Coordinates continuing educational opportunities for hospital staff and identifying possibilities for staff to facilitate continuing education for emerging practices.
Conducts individual and group sessions that help patients gain knowledge and develop skills to aid in their recovery or efforts to regain competency. All efforts must be documented in the medical record.
Develops and/or conducts specialized psychoeducational groups to help patients gain knowledge and develop skills to aid in their treatment.
Employee will analyze behavior of psychiatric patients, implement behavior plans by training staff members on the behavior plan, and develop/ implement treatment plans to establish psychiatric stability. The employee will use the state hospital Individualized Milieu Management System (IMMS).
Interviews referred patients and makes recommendations to the patient's treatment team the treatment(s) which will help the patient achieve stability, achieve his/her goals, and maintain recovery after discharge from the hospital.
Develops individual behavior plans to address problematic behaviors such as aggression, self-harm, intrusiveness, etc. Works with staff to successfully implement these plans. Monitors effectiveness and modifies plans as needed. As needed, conducts psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation.
Develops individualized Person-Centered Treatment Plans and prepares Treatment team reports as assigned on a rotating basis incorporating the patient's goals, noting barriers to achieving these goals, and including appropriate objectives, modifications, and interventions.
Participates in quality assurance and quality enhancement activities related to psychological service provision and to treatment across the hospital. This includes completing chart audits, participating in tracer activities, and reporting on psychological services he/she has provided.
Provides guidance and oversight to psychology students or other staff as needed to ensure that the vision and mission of our hospital system remains the primary focus of care.
Performs other duties as assigned. Job Duties
Position creates methods to expedite the identification, recruitment and retention of kinship families for a child who is in or at-risk of entering the child welfare system. These kinship resource families are relatives and persons who have a kinship relationship with the child, and who are found to be suitable, capable, and willing to serve as caretakers for the child.
Conducts interviews with the parents, child, and all other known family, friends, and community members, including searches within case notes and in on-line searches, in order to identify additional family connections.
All New Employees will complete the Child Welfare Core Academy Training Program
Learn treatment and preventive services;
Visit children in placement and conduct assessments of children and families;
Refer families and children to services in the community;
Participate in investigations of abuse and neglect of children, and prepare case reports and other documentation;
Attends court hearings and provides testimony;
Consults with the District Attorney and other attorneys, and tribal partners regarding efforts to protect the child, reunite the family or other permanent plans for the child;
Provides direct services to children in placement,
And other duties as assigned.
Travel is EXTENSIVE - Must possess a valid driver's license and must maintain required car insurance. State vehicles will be available for use to carry out the duties of the position.

Under the supervision of the Center Manager, this position is responsible for the delivery of clinical services and community supports to persons with severe and persistent mental illness, as defined by the state authority, The Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Services are to be provided according to the Resiliency and Disease Management Model, and must conform to the Performance Contract, Community Service Standards, and Helen Farabee Regional MHMR Center policy and procedures, and Medicaid standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent assists consumers in making informed choices educating them on community resources and assist with accessing services. The incumbent schedules uniform assessments and updates treatment plans in accordance to consumer need. This position may be required to serve on-call after regular business hours, for which compensation is provided. The incumbent must provide face-to-face assessment and crisis intervention services to any person requesting help or presenting a crisis at any time. Teamwork, initiative and positive example in work habits are always expected. Provides consultation and support to fellow staff as needed. This position requires an
aptitude
for working with severely mentally ill, often impoverished people; and for seeing this work as a clinical specialty in which we take great pride. The incumbent should have knowledge and skills in assessment, diagnostics, treatment planning, and community support services for children, adults, and geriatric persons with mental illness, as well as knowledge of psychotherapeutic medications and basic casework skills. This position provides assistance keeping unassigned caseloads up to date and/or assistance to caseworkers with assigned caseloads as needed. The incumbent is accountable to the Center Manager. HFC incorporates principles of trauma-informed care, which includes cultural sensitivity, in all areas of service delivery. Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university with major in social, behavioral or human services field. Licensure is not required. Experience with Severe and Persistent Mental illness is preferred but not required.
Must have valid driver's license and be insurable to drive Center vehicles. Must pass and maintain all Center mandate trainings and all trainings required for certification.
