INCREASED PAY RATES - $16.00/HOUR
A Great Wolf, Lifeguard is one of the most important positions in the lodge, as they are vital to ensuring the safety of our guests, their families, and anyone that visits our waterpark attractions. No matter the situation, Great Wolf lifeguards are trained to respond and ensure all guests enjoy a safe and fun environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises and provides surveillance of swimmers and guests during park hours, special events, and training sessions
- Responds to emergency situations in assigned zone
- Assists in communicating emergency situations outside of assigned zone
- Administers and coordinates emergency first aid as necessary
- Enforces the rules and regulations of the waterpark
- Advises aquatics management of unsafe and unsanitary conditions
- Provides superior customer service to all guests by assisting all in a polite and expedient manner
- Performs daily routine chores and maintenance of waterpark to ensure neat and orderly appearance
- Performing within Ellis Certification standards
Required Qualifications & Skills
- No experience required, training provided
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability and willingness to achieve Certification in First Aid, CPR and Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training
- Successful completions of criminal background check and drug screen
Desired Qualifications & Traits
- Good oral communication skills
- Prior First Aid, CPR, AED experience
- Prior lifeguard training and/or experience
Physical Requirements
- Swim 50 yards in 4 ft. of water and retrieve a 10 lb brick from the bottom of pool
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Capable of prolonged exposure to hot and humid environments
- Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs
- Minimum of 20/25 corrected or uncorrected vision and no permanent eye abnormalities

Be a leader! Be a lifeguard! Lifeguards maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas at all times. They create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Day In The Life of a Lifeguard:
* Maintains constant surveillance of the pool and aquatic areas
* Knows, reviews, and practices all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related accident/incident reports as required
* Maintains effective relationships with members, participants, and other staff
* Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
* Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department
* Checks pool and aquatic areas for hazardous conditions when arriving
* Performs chemical testing as required and takes appropriate action
* Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
* Attends and engages in all staff meetings and trainings as required
* Ensures personal certifications are accurate and up to date
* Other duties as assigned
What's required: (Please note some of these training programs may be provided by the Y)
* Experience preferred, but not required
* Minimum age of 16
* Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, Oxygen Administration certification
* Active Red Cross Lifeguarding or YMCA Lifeguarding and obtain Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire
* Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
* Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Ability to pass lifeguard water test
* Must be able to remain alert
* Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods
* Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
* Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision
* Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue
* Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
