Successful candidates are required to attend regular in-service trainings to continue gaining knowledge and confidence in: CPR, first aid, water rescue skills, spinal injury management, and fitness swimming. Examples of Duties
Responsibilities of a lifeguard include, but are not limited to:
* Successfully work in a team setting to accomplish daily tasks
* Vigilantly and actively scan your assigned zone
* Recognize and respond to emergencies as trained
* Consistently and politely enforce facility rules and policies
* Communicate respectfully and professionally with facility guests

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
* Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during the summer
* Current registered for an upcoming American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification class
* If you hold a current certification issued by an agency other than the American Red Cross, please indicate this on your application
* Once hired, the City will ensure you are trained and certified according to American Red Cross standards

Ensure participant safety through vigilant scanning. Ensure safety by preventing and responding to all emergency situations at the aquatic center as the first responder during all hours of operation.
Essential Job Functions:
Perform vigilant scanning techniques above and below the surface of the water as well as the pool deck to ensure patron safety.
Enforce all aquatic center policies, rules and regulations.
Recognize and respond efficiently and effectively to all emergency situations.
Briefly inspect the aquatic center and report all unsafe conditions and/or equipment to the Director.
Attend and participate in all in-service trainings and meetings to continually practice and refine lifesaving skills.
Maintain all lifesaving certifications at current status.
Typical Secondary Duties:
Attend to all participant questions, comments and concerns.
Complete hourly count of participant usage for all pools.
Complete all reports in the absence of a Head Lifeguard.
Assist in setup/teardown for any events in the aquatic center.
Minimum Qualifications:
Hold current certifications in Lifeguarding w/First Aid (31.25 hours of initial training)
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (8 hours of initial training)
Must complete Preventing Disease Transmission training per OSHA regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
Lifeguard experience preferred.
