Responsibilities
Program Overview
Youth Villages' Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings. We have three different types of facilities-Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes. Located in Tennessee and Georgia, all of these facilities utilize the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed).
Position Overview
The Behavioral Youth Counselor, also known as a Teacher Counselor:
Teaches the children necessary life skills and provide for their physical daily care.
Assists in treatment planning for each child.
Conducts daily documentation such as contact notes, milieu notes, and precautionary notes.
Participates in client transports to various locations
Participates in recreation therapy with children.
Improves children's behavior through coping skills and other therapeutic interventions.
Additional Information
Schedule:
Our Behavioral Youth Counselor/Assistants work a nontraditional schedule of Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat. The hours can vary for each campus, but will be roughly between the hours of 12pm-10:30pm. They are required to work their assigned scheduled hours which is a minimum of 40 hours a week and would receive overtime pay of time and half when they go over 40 hours. Hiring managers will communicate in advance any changes to the schedule for coverage or trainings a staff would attend ahead of time.
The supervision and treatment of youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility. May be required to run and climb flights of stairs. Must be able to participate in physical interventions with youth when necessary. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Will be required to complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training.
Applicants are required to pass an agility and strength evaluation.
Applicants must have valid driver license.

Key Responsibilities:
This direct care position supervises a group of 7-10 youth through activities during waking and non-waking hours. While unobtrusively providing external controls necessary to ensure safety and security, Youth Care Specialists guide and teach youth the internal controls needed to live responsibly when and where external controls are relaxed.
Supervise the activities of a group of youths, maintaining knowledge of the whereabouts of all group members. Comply with published procedures on movement, physical security, contraband, head counts, and reporting.
Provide a safe, secure environment using group counseling techniques, individual relationships, “positive discipline” techniques through effective use of the behavior modification system (I-Choose), and the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
Represent each youth's problems, needs, and accomplishments to the treatment team, or provides progress reports to the counselor representative on the treatment team.
Call and/or conduct “huddle-ups”, problem solving group meetings, and daily reviews with the assigned group of youths, providing prompts and interventions to ensure that youth are helping each other and are recognized for their efforts.
Assist classroom teachers in the delivery of subject matter and transfer of class content and study practices to the living units.
Assist and promote activity planning and completion by the assigned group of youths. Ensure that planning, doing, and evaluating are part of the daily routing for each group, and that activities or opportunities for individual recognition are created and used to treatment advantage.
Document daily shift occurrences and frequent population counts as required by local and corporate policy. Make referrals for special needs or medical evaluation, and brief oncoming shifts on events of the past shift.
Other Duties Include:
Participate in training and development activities as required.
Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education - Two years of college coursework in social or human service field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience - For incumbents with a high school diploma or equivalent, two years' work experience working with youth preferred.
Skills - Verbal skills to relate effectively with youth on an adult level, without patronizing, are required. Group counseling and leadership skills are required. Good analytical skills and the ability to distinguish between cause and effect and opinion and fact are also required, as is the capacity to think and act independently. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and appropriate crisis intervention methods must be obtained during the probationary period. Proficiency in group work must be demonstrated during probationary period and remaining employment with YOI. Must be able to provide accurate, objective written documentation of shift events and unusual incidents.
Physical Demands - Must be able to lift 30 pounds from floor level to shoulder height. Extensive walking and standing required. Must be capable of detecting and rapidly responding to client altercations, attempts at self-harm, or escape attempts, and must be able to apply approved physical restraint techniques. Must be capable of participating with clients in active and passive team or individual activities in outdoor or indoor environments, occasionally during inclement weather. Must be capable of transporting a client. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that such knowledge is attainable under the law.

What you can expect:
The Friends For All Corporation Early Intervention Specialist (EIS) will serve as a primary person of contact to provide support for persons newly diagnosed with HIV, persons living with HIV/AIDS who are pregnant, persons with HIV/AIDS who have been lost from care, persons with HIV/AIDS who have been recently released from incarceration, people whose HIV status is unknown and persons who are in medical care, but have identified issues that adversely impact their retention in care. EIS will work closely Medical Case Management to provide treatment adherence counseling to ensure readiness for, and adherence to, complex HIV/AIDS treatments. Treatment adherence counseling is defined as a consumer's successful initiation and compliance to HIV medications resulting in viral suppression and engagement in care.
How you will make an impact:
The successful Early Intervention Specialist will perform the following:
Client Engagement and Follow-Up:
Conduct intake on all clients presenting for services
Ensure all clients presenting for services receive STI panel and needs assessment once every six months
Acts as an information resource for both internal and external resources. Provide referrals to address identified social determinants of health needs.
Track receipt of referrals for all persons supported
Conduct targeted HIV testing to help the unaware learn of their HIV status and receive referrals to HIV care and treatment series if found to be HIV +. Distribute condoms and PrEP/PEP information to those testing negative for HIV
Provides mentoring services to people living with HIV who are newly diagnosed, lost to care, and/or at risk of falling out of care by providing risk reduction counseling, treatment adherence counseling, and HIV education.
Initiates and maintains regular supportive contact with assigned clients by conducting weekly stress level and adherence check-ins.
Assist clients with appointment set up and reminders
Attend appointments with clients on an as needed basis.
Conduct street outreach to people living with HIV/AIDS who have been lost to care, are unaware of their status, have a detectable viral load, and/or present barriers to care.
Community Engagement:
Develops relationships with points of entry and other community contacts who are engaged in the provision of HIV testing.
Develop and prepare well written materials and professional presentations.
Attend community meetings and serve on committees or boards as the department's representative;
Works with health providers and other partner agencies and community members to promote healthy lifestyle choices and control spread of communicable diseases.
Develop relationships with community-based organizations providing services that address our client's needs.
Participates in workshops and in-service training at agencies, prisons and other facilities.
Lab Procedures
Collect blood and urine samples from clients
Record client vitals
Prepare lab specimens for pickup by laboratory services partners

Maintain an orderly and clean testing area including keeping the lab fully stocked
Data Entry and Documentation
Provides accurate, complete and timely data entry and reporting of all relevant program and consumer data into CAREware, HMIS, and/or other reporting systems as requested by supervisor.
Complete HMIS Consent, HMIS Intake, and HMIS pre-assessment for clients who are unstably housed.
Record all contacts and contact attempts into Apricot and Careware.
Maintain accurate and current process, procedural, and program, and inventory logs of specific outreach and testing activities, health materials, condoms/lube, OraQuick Temperature log (Control storage area); Test result, and OraQuick control.
Maintain and reconcile accurate forms: Outreach Logs; reactive test result form; reactive rapid test; ID form; testing forms; Order Form/Testing Supplies.
Maintains all client related information under strict confidentiality.
Digital Health Literacy
Implement selected Digital Health Curriculum for eligible participants.
Assist in assessing clients' needs around computer literacy, access to computer, cell phone, internet services, and access to medical care services.
Provide group and individual digital literacy classes at our facility, in client home and/or at other community-based locations per selected curriculum.
Utilize internal and external referral sources to recruit eligible clients for program.
Ensure clients complete Digital Literacy program and are properly transitioned into Wellness University and linked to consistent medical services.
Ensure participants ability to utilize telehealth or telemedicine options such as; video medical visits, navigating electronic health record, utilizing mobile health apps, emailing/texting your medical provider, and ect.
Provide ongoing client follow up via Tovuti, Teams or Zoom one time per month to ensure client ongoing utilization of telehealth and overall computer literacy skills for 3 months after completion of digital literacy training sessions. Early Intervention Services will continue monthly follow up visits for 3 months via telehealth.

Obtains and processes information necessary for the establishment of paternity and support orders, enforcement of support orders and review/adjustment of support orders including contacting mothers and alleged fathers to attempt to secure consent orders of paternity and/or support.

Calculates current child support amounts in accordance with Child Support Guidelines and DHS rules and regulations.
