ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Ensures the delivery of child life services through the assessment of and interaction with patients and families using developmentally appropriate play as a tool in assessing and meeting the child's psychosocial needs, providing a therapeutic and safe environment according to the age and needs of the patient/population served.
Ensures safe care to pediatric and neonatal patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care, within budgetary specifications, including time/supply management and accuracy of practice.
A passion to work with children. Delivers child life services at a competent level, according to the Child Life skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient population.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for continuing education, skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of Midland Memorial Hospital; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to staff.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in Child Life, Child Development, Family Studies or related field.
Certification in Child Life by the Child Life Council.
Works collaboratively to meet the needs of the pediatric patient throughout all areas where child care is provided.

About you and this role:

Assist in identification of students who would benefit from special programs and services
Assist in an effective referral process for students to access special programs and services
Work with parents and staff on Behavior Intervention Plans
System support including program delivery and support:
Guidance program planning and development, parent education, teacher/administrator consultation, staff development for educators, school improvement planning, counselors' professional development, research and publishing, community outreach and public relations.
Provide resources and training for faculty and staff to enhance the implementation of the guidance program
Educate the school staff, parents, and the community about the guidance program through a public information program
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to enhance the educational experience for students
Conduct at least one in-service program in the building for teachers and administrators
Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and issues in education
Enhance professional development by attending appropriate staff development to meet district requirements including staff development provided by the district, local professional counselor organizations, regional training centers, and/or state counselor conferences.
Prepare reports as requested by the Director of Guidance and Counseling
