It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bi-lingual, or implementation of the Department's Limited English Proficiency Plan. This position with the Department of Health in Lee County's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides basic breastfeeding education to WIC participants in various locations throughout Lee County. Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are paraprofessionals, who are recruited and hired from WIC's target population, are available to WIC clients outside usual clinic hours and outside of the WIC clinic environment, and have had previous experience with breastfeeding, having successfully breastfed at least one baby. Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Duties Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on normal breastfeeding related issues in the clinic or by telephone visits at scheduled intervals determined by the local WIC agency. Breastfeeding Peer Counselors work approximately 20 hours a week. Peer counselors work in an assigned clinic and are available to WIC clients by phone, through use of a state issued cell phone, outside of normal work hours, i.e. evenings up till 9:00 pm week days and on week-ends. Time spent by Peer Counselors, contacting and assisting clients outside of regular work hours will be considered work time. Must get approval for any work time above 20 hours a week and cannot exceed 29 hours a week. The CYRS Counselor (Master's Level) provides time-limited, in-home prevention and intervention counseling for youth ages 9-17 and their families. Demonstrate cultural competency, sensitivity to the service population, and an understanding of socio-economic issues.
Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field.

The School Counselor provides an opportunity for behavioral health recognition and prevention in student athletes in the boarding and non-boarding school setting. This position is expected to be an initial point of contact for behavioral health concerns as they relate to social relationships, self-esteem/self-image, adjustment, and general stressors. The counselor is expected to listen and provide a safe space for open conversation. The school counselor will assess current concerns and adjust level of care, including making a referral for further psychological or mental health treatment, as needed. Collaborative communication between teachers, parents, staff (IMGA and JHACH), and student athletes is an essential responsibility. The primary goal of the school counselor is to assist students in reaching their full potential by providing a supportive environment, including ongoing drop in and well-being resources.
Job Duties:
Address the developmental needs of students through the provision of short-term, problem-focused individual and group counseling.
Consultation and collaboration with Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital-IMG Health and Psychological Services, as well as IMGA teachers, families, administrators, and community members in order to support student success.
Support best interests of student athletes and IMGA at necessary meetings, including Learning Resource Center, Disciplinary, Wellbeing, and others as they arise. Provide face-to-face/onsite and virtual counseling sessions in the individual and group format, with parental consent, as needed.
Maintain consistent communication with classroom teachers, families (when appropriate), school principal, JHACH personnel, and other school personnel to maximize effectiveness of student services.
Commitment to professional development to stay abreast of current changes and trends in the field of school counseling and student behavioral health
Plan, prepare, and oversee the implementation of intervention strategies when appropriate.
Conduct thorough follow-up to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
Assist in early identification of students' school-related problems, behavior, and social-emotional concerns.
Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate action.
Provide direct observation and/or crisis intervention assistance as necessary.
Assist in conducting relevant in-service training for faculty and staff.
Requirements:
M.A./M.S. in School Counseling, Counselor, or similar with state certification in School Counseling or
Licensed or license eligible Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (2nd)
Certification as teacher in the state of Florida is preferred, but not required
A minimum of 1 year of experience with counseling children/students of multiple ages/grade levels
Experience with personal, classroom and virtual counseling preferred
Working knowledge of technology and virtual meeting programs (Microsoft Teams) preferred
Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekend
A positive, open minded, and enthusiastic attitude towards students, administration, parents, and other internal and external customers
