Job Description Vista Del Mar is an inpatient psychiatric hospital serving Ventura and the surrounding areas. Our Mental Health Workers provide direct care to our clients in the form of greeting and orienting new clients, crisis de-escalation and intervention, and assisting clients with completing treatment related activities and daily life tasks. Prototypes Women's Center-Oxnard provides detoxification and residential substance abuse treatment to women. Our program is unique in that women can bring their children in. The SUD Counselor I is a registered substance use disorder professional who maintains registration from an approved/accredited California agency. The SUD Counselor I works in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure best possible treatment outcome for the client and provide treatment in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360's philosophy, goals, policies, mission and vision. The SUD Counselor I provides supervision and oversite of the clients and children throughout the facility with shifts ranging to provide 24/7 coverage. Administer the BAM-R, C-SSRS, GAD-7, and PHQ-9 screening tools to determine the severity of the patient's mental/emotional status. Evaluate the risk factors concerning each such case, considering the appropriateness of, and professionalism in treating such individuals in an OTP in comparison to treatment in a residential facility or other treatment modalities. Review and ask about other practitioners' involvement in the treatment of these high-risk conditions. Recommend immediate referral to such a specialist in case of need. Request the patient sign a waiver for release of information which will allow communication with the other practitioner in case of need (e.g., deterioration of the patient's condition). Flag high-risk patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership (RCL) and highlight the conditions concerned. Refer such patients to the Medical Directors, Physician Extenders or RCLs (Regional Clinical Leadership) based on the urgency, utilizing the informal Referral Policy or the scheduled Treatment Team/Case Conference session. Key Responsibilities Attend treatment team meetings and learn about documentation requirements in an electronic health record system Observe the daily activities of a residential or outpatient SUD treatment program Shadow certified SUD Counselors and/or LPHAs during assessment, treatment planning, groups, classes, counseling sessions, and case management sessions Work with staff and support clients in their process towards recovery Receive regular weekly supervision with a Certified/ Licensed SUD Counselor in a Supervisory Role, Registered LPHA, or Clinical Supervisor in accordance with educational program requirements Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be registered with an SUD counselor Certifying Organization (CO) recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) before internship start date Must be enrolled in an accredited educational program studying to become an SUD counselor Comfort working with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency Awareness of cultural humility and able to work with a diverse population Professional, punctual, flexible and reliable Able to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Proficiency with Microsoft Office application and internet applications Some locations may require a background check. AOD II Counselor - About CLARE|MATRIX: CLARE|MATRIX “CM” is a nonprofit organization providing effective and compassionate treatment, recovery, and prevention services for alcoholism and substance use to individuals, families, and the community. Headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, CLARE|MATRIX maintains multiple facilities in the Southern California region. Since 1970, CLARE|MATRIX has provided quality substance use and mental health treatment to individuals in treatment for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) in Southern California. Summary Under general supervision, the AOD II Counselor provides proficient, trauma-informed Substance Use Disorder (SUD) counseling services to participants each day, guiding them through the early stages of recovery by providing assessments, counseling, education, crisis intervention within scope, and delivers structured education to support participant growth. The AOD II Counselor collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team, ensures clear and timely documentation, and contributes to a stable, recovery-oriented treatment environment. The AOD II may support program quality by mentoring and guiding AOD I counselors. Facilitate individual and group counseling using evidence-based approaches. Develop and update treatment plans that support participant goals. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation within certification scope. Deliver psychoeducation and support participant skill-building. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EHR. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and coordinate participant care. Qualifications Completion of 315 hours of state-approved SUD education. Certified with CCAPP: CADC-I, or similar level credential with other accredited certifying bodies. Proficient counseling, communication, and documentation skills. Completion of 255 supervised practicum hours. Experience in residential or outpatient SUD treatment. CPR/First Aid certification required or obtained upon hire. Must exhibit emotional maturity, resilience, and the interpersonal skills required to engage respectfully and effectively with individuals in recovery, and to support group dynamics in a diverse treatment community.
