Introduction
The Youth Engagement Specialists spend their day nurturing, leading group discussions and managing young people with behavioral health issues to ensure their safety and guide them in daily interactions with other students and staff members in a residential setting. Youth Engagement Specialists (YES) have a four day work week with varying hours.
Wage Range Starts at $17.50 to $19.00/hour based on experience. A complete benefit package is included for full-time employees.

Pay Setting: Pay setting is based on degree and having 24 graduate semester hours in guidance and counseling. Pay setting is determined AFTER selection process. Per 62 BIAM personnel provisions (62 BIAM 11.48C(3) - Master's degrees must be in counseling or a related field. Alternately, a master's degree in any field including 24 graduate semester hours in guidance and counseling will be accepted as a substitute for a master's degree in counseling; none of the hours used to meet this alternate requirement will be counted as additional hours (above the master's degree) even if they are credited by the university as graduate hours. Graduate hours above the master's degree must be in counseling or a related field (such as substance abuse) in order to be credited. The education levels are as follows:
* Pay Level 21 requires a Master's Degree in counseling or related field

Job Summary
The Mental Health Counselor or Mental Health Therapist coordinates, plans and delivers the best psychotherapeutic approach for each patient. Collaborates with patient/family, multidisciplinary team, and physician to formulate a realistic plan that identifies goals, specific interventions, and resources to meet the patient's needs.
Assesses patient's progress and modifies treatment plan accordingly.
Develops and maintains positive partnerships with providers of mental health and social services in the community as appropriate to the needs and requirements of the patient on an ongoing basis.
Maintains good communication and collaborative relationships with referring providers and other staff. Recommends additional referrals for patient as needed.

Assists patients to maintain their sense of competence, identity and autonomy.
Demonstrates effective collaboration with community/regional services and hospital personnel while maintaining patient and family rights.

Completes discharge planning note/assessment within predetermined guidelines. Upon completion of assessment, recommendations are integrated into the treatment plan 95% of the time.

Job Summary
The Mental Health Counselor or Mental Health Therapist coordinates, plans and delivers the best psychotherapeutic approach for each patient. Provides clinical (only) supervision for day-to-day implementation of therapeutic strategies or milieu programming that carries out the treatment plan for each patient by a variety of staff including psychiatric technicians, LPNs, RNs, mental health counselors and discharge planners across the Center's continuum of care. Services are provided with the recognized standards of practice and the patient's Plan of Care. The Plan of Care is based on the initial and comprehensive assessments of patient/caregiver.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
Provides individual, marital, family and group therapy within the scope of the inpatient unit
Develops and implements an individualized treatment approach. Communicates with family to further the effectiveness of treatment plan.
Collaborates with patient/family, multidisciplinary team, and physician to formulate a realistic plan that identifies goals, specific interventions, and resources to meet the patient's needs.
Assesses patient's progress and modifies treatment plan accordingly.
Develops and maintains positive partnerships with providers of mental health and social services in the community as appropriate to the needs and requirements of the patient on an ongoing basis.
Maintains good communication and collaborative relationships with referring providers and other staff. Recommends additional referrals for patient as needed.
Functions as a positive resource, communication coordinator, and role model for departmental staff. Maintains accessibility and visibility within the department.
Assists patients to maintain their sense of competence, identity and autonomy.
Demonstrates effective collaboration with community/regional services and hospital personnel while maintaining patient and family rights.
Assists in discharge plan development, giving direction to discharge planner as needed.
Completes discharge planning note/assessment within predetermined guidelines. Upon completion of assessment, recommendations are integrated into the treatment plan 95% of the time.

Additional Requirements
Required:
Education - Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field
Preferred:
Certifications - Licensed Professional Counselor License - South Dakota Department of Social Services Certifications OR Certified Social Work Case Manager (CSWCM) - Accredited University or accredited training professionals OR Licensed Family and Therapist
Experience - 3+ years healthcare experience
Physical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Primary Duties
A. Conduct substance use evaluations as assigned.
B. Facilitate group sessions, make-up groups, aftercare sessions, individual counseling and educational groups as scheduled.
C. Document client's participation in all scheduled groups and counseling sessions.

F. Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings.

POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education & Experience: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in human service with a focus on substance use, mental health, or criminal justice field and a minimum of two years related work experience, or an equivalent combination.
Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills
Certifications & Licenses: Must be certified or certifiable at ACT, CAC, or LAC level for addiction counseling in the state of South Dakota. MRT and/or CBISA certification preferred.

The MFLC counselor is an independently licensed mental health professional who exercises discretion and independent judgement to provide appropriate resource information in the form of non-medical counseling, coaching, training and education to military service members and their families.
Non-medical counseling is supportive in nature and addresses: living conditions; life skills; improving relationships at home and at work; stress management; adjustment issues, such as those related to returning from deployment; marital problems; parenting, fear, grief and loss.
School counselors and Child Development Center Counselors are assigned to DoDEA schools, military childcare centers, and in some cases, local community schools. Counselors should have experience working in a school setting to qualify for CYB positions. CYB counselors are also assigned to youth programs, summer camps, and for on demand assignments. CYB counselors are responsible for working closely with military branch Points of Contact (POCs) to assure that the program is provided within the scope of the contract and meets the needs of assigned installation.

Mental Health Licensure at the Independent Practice level
