The Youth Advocate I for Hillside Work Scholarship Connection (HWSC) provides support and mentoring services to an assigned caseload of students in the HWSC program. Essential Job functions
Assist in the identification and selection of youth who have the personal characteristics to become successful participants in the HWSC program.

Develop strong relationships with students and their families to understand and/or identify home issues that might impede school, work, and post-secondary success.
Provide referrals to community support services as necessary.
Ensure parents and/or guardians are informed of, and in agreement with, the service goals established for their child during monthly family home visits and/or phone calls.
Partner with core subject teachers and school counselors to ensure assigned students come to class on time and are prepared to learn.
Facilitate all evidence-based course work, service-learning projects, and social-life activities (i.e. pre-employment readiness training, evidence-based course work facilitation, etc.).
Provide transportation services (using personal vehicle and/or agency vans) for HWSC students attending tutoring services, enrichment activities, and field trips.
Accurately complete program documentation and reporting on assigned students in the required format and in accordance with required timeframes. Inputs into and creates reports from Efforts Toward Outcomes (ETO) as needed.
Maintain accurate records of own work time and travel information.
Assist seniors planning to attend college in developing a transition plan and monitor student progress against the plan during weekly meetings, track plan progress in ETO.
Apply State Department of Education high school graduation requirements and local school specific requirements, as well as necessary post-secondary planning processes (FASFA, SAT/ACT and/or Accuplacer testing, college applications process, work force preparation, and job placement) with each student's guidance counselor for graduation success and post-secondary success for assigned students.
Monitor student progress against Academic, Attitude, and Attendance (AAA) standards to determine Youth Employment Training Academy (YETA) eligibility.
Provide support and encouragement to students completing YETA, and the job search process.
Monitor placement and progress of students employed by an employment partner.
Partner with the employment and or college and career team to resolve employment partner challenges/issues.

Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum 2 years of relevant work, volunteer or higher education experience in human services, childhood or youth development, student mentoring, coaching adolescent youth, or related field required.

The Residence Counselor supervises and supports youth in their daily routine in accordance with agency policy and program protocols, while consistently demonstrating a strength-based approach, Trauma Informed Care, and de-escalation techniques. Provide direct care, supervision, and support to children during their stay in the crisis residence.

The Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor or CASAC will provide alcoholism and substance use disorder counseling services for individuals served by the Supportive Crisis Stabilization Center (SCSC).
The role will support individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders, referred to as co-occurring disorders (COD). The CASAC can assist in assessment of symptoms form clients who may have substance abuse barriers by applying professional judgment to determine appropriate treatment needs and levels of care. The CASAC utilizes Evidence Based Practices as directed by SCSC clinical leadership team. This includes performing diagnostic assessment, evaluation, intervention, referral and alcoholism and/or substance abuse counseling within the scope of their CASAC credentials.
Core Responsibilities
Promote the individual's recovery by coordinating, developing and implementing in partnership with the individual, the treatment plan process.
Promote involvement of family or other relevant collateral contacts in the recovery process.
Provide individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention, within scope of education/certification.
Demonstrate knowledge of group work management techniques and use those techniques appropriately.
Provide linkage, referral, and case management as clinically indicated.
Serve as a member of a Multi-Disciplinary Clinical Team.
Respond to and support crisis interventions.
Attend individual and group supervision with supervisor.
Introduce clients to program goals, objectives, rules and regulations, client's obligations, client's rights and program operation.

Provides education and information to the client about alcohol and drug use.
Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
Qualifications
Associates Degree with valid current CASAC certification required (CASAC-T or Provisional).
Completion of OASAS CASAC required 350 hours and CASAC certification attained within 6-months of employment considered.
Minimum CASAC credential as Advanced CASAC preferred/ Maintain CASAC credentials, as required by New York State.
Experience with Group Facilitation, substance abuse counseling, conducting and testing clients for substance abuse, and collaborative treatment planning preferred.

General Functions:
Under the direction of the School Age & Family Director, the Head of Group will plan, organize and lead a comprehensive thematic-based enrichment program. Employment is contingent upon the incumbent clearing all NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements; these requirements include fingerprinting, background screening and clearance on the State Central Register (SCR) and Statewide Central
Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCL) within the first 30-days of employment. Prior to being assigned to their position, the incumbent is required to complete an initial medical statement and tuberculin test. If the incumbent previously worked in a Child/Day Care setting, a prior medical statement and tuberculin test may be accepted if dated within 12-months preceding the date of the application.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
· Plan, organize, and lead all daily SACC program activities. Lesson plans must be posted for parents and readily available for substitute staff.
· Familiarize oneself with the YMCA School Age Child Care objectives and curriculum and consider these objectives throughout the planning and leading of all activities.
· Observe and follow the YMCA School Age Child Care program guidelines as well as the regulations set forth by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
· Report to the program ready to work at designated times and prepared to stay until all of the children have left and space is thoroughly cleaned.
· Provide a safe, healthy, moral, and fun environment for all children. Assist with behavior management of program participants using positive techniques of guidance, redirection, reinforcement, and encouragement of age appropriate expectations. Set up guidelines and environments that minimize the need for discipline and provide steps towards progressive discipline as needed.
· Provide a positive role model for the children in the program. This includes actions, speech, and attire of all staff.
· Foster within the program participants the growth of the four YMCA character values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty. To also foster the growth of skills in team-building, good sportsmanship, friendship, and pride in doing one's best.
· Assist with providing a nutritious daily snack appropriate in proportion and content for the age group according to the HEPA guidelines including Family Style Dining. Follow daily snack menu as much as possible and able to improvise when needed.
· Complete incident reports for all injuries, accidents or illnesses requiring first aid. To discuss these incidents with parents, obtain a parent signature on the form and follow up on injury. Turn all incident reports in to the Director within 48 hours.
· Assist with maintaining records of daily and monthly attendance ensuring that all parents are signing in/out and to turn these in by the 1st of each month.
· Assist with the responsibility of completing and maintaining all participant files, medication consent forms and review of participant information mid-year.
· Conduct and maintain records of monthly fire drills, shelter in place drills and daily health checks as required by OCFS.
· Supervise all Site Assistant staff by setting a positive professional example. Addressing questions or concerns with staff.
· Maintain a positive, open relationship with all staff, parents, and program participants. Any issues/concerns should be reported to the Director.
· Attend all scheduled monthly staff meetings and trainings/workshops.
· Assist with leading a Snow Day & Vacation Camp program when school is closed due to inclement weather or scheduled school breaks. Work additional hours as needed during days that school is not in session.
· Be responsible for maintaining the property including the general cleanliness/organization of the space, daily trash removal, mopping and communicating any necessary repairs to the Director.
· Work during vacation camp on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on the need. A minimum of three shifts will be required.
· Hand in completed time sheets on a bi-weekly basis and monthly items due completed by the 25th of each month.
· Co-plan and implement the annual Lights on After School Event.
· All other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Experience and Education:
· Working towards, or having a High School diploma or equivalent.
· And, substantial experience working with children under 13 years of age.

Trainings & Certifications:
· Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens and Employee Safety trainings prior to initial assignment to position.
