The Role

Fitters are often called the "carpenters" of shipbuilding or "Artists of Steel" because they need to read and interpret blueprints or plans to place, maneuver, or fabricate steel structures or hulls of ships. Fitters use a variety of tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as a fingernail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of a ship. Fitters also build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.
Fitters at NNS attend and become qualified through the shipyard's state of the art welding school. Fitters are expected to climb and work in high areas, crawl and work in cramped, confined spaces, and perform tasks in all kinds of weather conditions. A fitter will apply their skills in various locations across the shipyard, including the shops, platens or concrete and metal structures, dry-docks, and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair, and ship overhauls.

Provides the full breadth of MFLC consultation and counseling services to the command structure and military service members and their families at military installations. Responsible for providing MFLC services including non-medical, short-term, walk-around counseling, training/health and wellness presentations, and consultation to installation command regarding behavioral health issues with an understanding of the military unit, cultural and mission. Works closely with the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director, installation, and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to assure that the program is provided within scope and meets the needs of the installation.
Provides non-medical, short-term, solution focused, walk-around counseling directly to eligible service and family members at assigned primary and secondary locations. Services include assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources (assuring linkage as appropriate), and follow-up as indicated.
Delivers training and health and wellness presentations, participates in health fairs and other base/installation activities as requested/directed.
Enters counselor activity data daily through smart phone, or web application, to assure that reporting is accurate from assigned installation, while maintaining client/service member confidentiality.
Consistently visible within the brigade/regiment which allows MFLC services to be accessible. Establishes and maintains working relationships with community resources and provides appropriate linkages for service members and their families. Partners with POC to provide MFLC services in a manner that addresses the needs of the installation. Develops an effective and professional working relationship with the installation POC.
Provides MFLC response to critical incidents, surge and on demand events, and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager. Counselor will flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol and staffs the cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
Communicates with Regional Supervisors and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations to which the counselor is assigned.
Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned/appropriate.
Participates in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs as directed by the customer and/or Magellan. This includes participation in pilot program certification and training processes, completion of activity documentation, integration of pilot activities in non-medical counseling work, and the utilization of applicable technology to complete required activities.

The part-time grant funded domestic violence attorney also participates in training with local law enforcement regarding the intricacies of effectively investigating domestic violence cases for successful case prosecution.
The project period for this grant is 7/1/2025 through 6/30/2026.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Duties may include:
Provides life skills counseling and program supervision for adult offenders in a residential correctional setting; provides individual and group counseling and maintains written reports on progress.
Conducts needs assessments of residents, formulates program and post-release plans, and works
Conducts intake interviews and orients incoming residents to the program, informing them about rules, policies, operations, and the disciplinary process.
Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion; and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
Provides crisis counseling to residents and refers residents to available community resources, as needed.
Maintains complete caseload files, including interviews, assessments, services, and probation progress, and prepares case records by state and county regulations.
Conduct classification assessments; supervise residents with classifications from high to low-risk factors; and coordinate all outside activities of residents to ensure compliance with court conditions and program restrictions.
Provides administrative and supervising functions in the supervisor's absence; i.e., determines a resident's eligibility for the facility, assesses escape status, determines if a return to jail is appropriate, and ensures that due process is followed.
Assists indigent residents with accessing financial resources for release planning and monitors residents' payment of financial obligations.
Write reports on program compliance of individual residents, including administrative disciplinary reports, reports to court, reports substantiating probation violation allegations, and residents' performance summaries.
Maintains control and discipline within the residential house; supervises residents regarding house and community activities, home visits, and employment-related matters.
Attends periodic staff meetings, professional association conferences, and training programs and speaks at schools and civic organizations.
Searches residents and facility and collects and maintains urine samples for evidence.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree preferred but not required. At least one year of experience working with adults who have mental health or substance abuse problems. Must be able to attend monthly staff meetings

Consistently visible within the school which allows MFLC services to be accessible when working with children, the counselor must abide by line of sight protocol (another adult with responsibility for the child must be able to see the counselor and child they are working with at all times).
Partners with POC to provide CYB services in a manner that addresses the needs of the installation/facility. Develops an effective and professional working relationship with the installation/facility POC.
Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol and staffs the cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
Communicates with Regional Supervisor and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations and in facilities to which they are assigned. Responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager. The CYB will flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs other contract activities as assigned/appropriate as directed by the customer and/or Magellan. This includes participation in pilot program certification and training processes, completion of activity documentation, integration of pilot activities in non-medical counseling work, and the utilization of applicable technology to complete required activities.
