County National Bank company history timeline

1934

County National, however, reorganized in February of 1934 by virtue of a stock offering to existing depositors.

1942

1942 — The National Bank of Blacksburg built and owned its first office.

1963

1963 — Moved to the present Main Office on yet another corner of Main and Roanoke Streets.

1965

To simplify growth into additional market areas, the name was changed to "County National Bank" in 1965.

1968

The North Main Office, the first branch built and owned by the bank in 1968.

1973

In 1973, our first office opened with six employees and $1.25 million in capital.

1974

1974 — Constructed the Hethwood Office.

1976

In 1976, the separation of functions was established, creating a distinct Chairman of the Board of Directors position, separate from the management of the bank.

1984

In March of 1984, County National Bank reorganized and became a wholly owned subsidiary of CNB Financial Corporation.

1984 — A former Exxon station was converted into the South Main Office.

1986

1986 — Formed a one-bank holding company, National Bankshares, Inc.

1988

1988 — The National Bank of Blacksburg added Giles County to its service area.

1989

The Pearisburg staff moved from rented quarters to its new office in May 1989.

1990

1990 — Opened the Market Place Office in Christiansburg.

1992

On July 24, 1992, Jacksonville Savings and Loan Association changed its charter to a mutual savings bank and was renamed Jacksonville Savings Bank.

1994

The Bank completed the construction of its new main office facility on West Morton in Jacksonville in December 1994.

1995

On April 20, 1995, the Bank completed its first public stock offering, converting from its mutual ownership to a stock institution.

1996

As our bank continued to grow during the latter half of the 20th century, operations expanded geographically. As a result, CNB opened a branch in Duncan Falls on December 12, 1996.

1996 — The Bank of Tazewell County (BTC) joins National Bankshares, Inc.

1997

1997 — Opened the Rich Creek Office.

1998

1998 — The National Bank of Blacksburg added another market area with the acquisition of a First American office in the City of Galax.

1999

1999 — The bank opens its tenth banking location on the corner of Hubbard and South Main Streets.

2000

Citizens National Bank reorganized on December 29th, 2000, under its parent company, CNB Holdings, Inc.

2000 — National Bankshares Insurance Services and National Bankshares Investment Services are founded.

Michael T. Vynalek - President (2000 - Present) became President following the retirement of Lloyd D. Williams, and he is the current President and Chief Executive Officer of The Citizens National Bank of McConnelsville.

2000: Introduced Internet Banking with optional Bill Pay, Free Checking and Overdraft Protection, and began The Good Life Travel Program for customers over 50

2003

2003 — The bank opens a new office in downtown Christiansburg.

2003: Celebrated our 30th Anniversary with $400 million in assets

2004

Williams served as a board member following his Presidency until 2004.

The 2004 expansion plans for the Derby office new operations center was initiated

2005

In October, 2005, a new bank named ERIEBANK was formed in Erie, Pennsylvania.

2006

County National Bank converted from a national banking charter to a state banking charter on December 29, 2006, officially changing its name to CNB Bank.

2006 ― The National Bank of Blacksburg and Bank of Tazewell County combine their operations to form National Bank, with 25 banking locations across Southwest Virginia.

2007

August 2, 2007, CNB announced plans to acquire LyndonBank

As of the close of business on December 31, 2007, LyndonBank merged with and into Community National Bank and added Enosburg, Lyndonville and Morrisville offices

2009

2009: Expanded options with free Rewards Checking with no minimum balance and interest paid on collected balances; launched GoMobile Banking and opened a CNB Facebook page and Twitter account

2010

Following the acquisitions of a branch and another bank, by 2010 Carlinville National Bank had facilities in Carlinville, Clayton, MO, Hillsboro, Jacksonville, Oak Forest, and Pittsfield.

CNB continues its commitment to the community and to innovation, earning an “Outstanding” on our 2010 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) exam, and launching Remote Deposit giving business clients the ability to make deposits from their offices by scanning checks with a CNB-provided scanner.

2011

Prior to July of 2011 CNB Bank & Trust, N.A. operated as 4 individual sister banks under the Carlinville National Bank Shares, Inc.

2011 ― National Bank grows to over $1 billion in assets.

2013

On October 11, 2013, CNB Financial Corporation acquired the eight branch bank, Farmers Citizens Bank, which was headquartered just north of Columbus in Bucyrus, Ohio.

2015

In July, 2015, CNB Bank, completed a merger with Lake National Bank, a national bank in Mentor, Ohio with two branches.

At the close of business on July 17, 2015, the Broad Street Lyndonville office and the Federal Street St Johnsbury offices were closed and the other two offices in Caledonia County remain open

2016

In November, 2016, a new bank named BankOnBuffalo was formed in Buffalo, New York.

2016 — National Bank opens its Roanoke Loan Production Office.

2018

Doctor Alpha Applebee later served as President of the Association to be followed by his son, A. Wadsworth Applebee, and then his son, Andrew F. Applebee, who served as Chairman until 2018.

CNB started off 2018 with the launch of their new website.

2019

In 2019, CNB established a market presence in Hamblen County with a grand opening celebration of a new branch in Morristown located at 4320 Evan Greene Plaza.

2020

In March 2020, CNB opened its third branch in Pigeon Forge inside Food City on Teaster Lane.

John K. Christie - Chairman of the Board of Directors (2020 - Present) was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2020.

2021

In December 2021, CNB established a market presence in McMinn County with a new branch opening at 1305 Decatur Pike in Athens.
