Montrose County company history timeline
In 1890 the D&RGRR completed its standard gauge railroad from Denver to Grand Junction, leaving Montrose on the narrow gauge from Salida to Grand Junction and Ouray.
Things started to turn around in 1905 when the Uncompahgre National Forest was established to manage and protect resources.
In 1906, the track from Grand Junction to Montrose was changed from narrow gauge to standard gauge.
Wildlife started to recover around the 1930's and the city has continued to grow.
Since 1995, we've built travel guides that promote great outdoor destinations.
