1891

There have been ten Clerks of Court for the Fifth Circuit since 1891.

1948

Chief Judge There have been eleven Chief Judges for the Fifth Circuit since the office was created in 1948.

1957

In 1957, the Florida Legislature created three district courts of appeal to assume a portion of the appellate jurisdiction of the state court system.

The Third District first met in 1957 at the University of Miami School of Law.

1970

Under the 1970 Constitutional Amendment, the Court of Appeals was established and a new process for the selection of judges was instituted.

1971

In 1971, the Indiana General Assembly established three geographic districts of approximately equal population for the Court of Appeals.

1972

In 1972, Dade County deeded to the State of Florida three acres in Tamiami Park, along Southwest 117th Avenue, adjacent to the Florida International University campus, for the purpose of constructing a building to house the Third District Court of Appeal.

1981

Governor Bob Graham presented the court with the Governor's Design Award in 1981 which recognizes outstanding achievement in the development of public facilities.

In 1981, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Reorganization Act divided the court and created a new circuit.

2019

The current Chief Judge, Priscilla Richman 2019–present
