Courtesy Ford company history timeline

1938

The Continental was originally commissioned by Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford I, in 1938 to be his own personal car.

1946

Production of the Lincoln Continental resumed in 1946 with much the same design, with the exception of a more imposing hood and a new bold grille.

1958

In 1958, Continental ceased to be a separate marque and was integrated into the Lincoln brand.

2017

The current generation of the Lincoln Continental went into production for the 2017 model year after a 15-year break and is once again at the forefront of the luxury car market.
