This opening is for a medical physics position with primary responsibilities at the Covenant Health Proton Therapy Center, with opportunities at other Covenant Health radiation oncology departments in and around Knoxville.
The Covenant Health Proton Therapy Center uses IBA, RaySearch, Mosaiq, and RadFormation products. The primary job responsibilities involve delivering external beam proton therapy using an IBA Proteus 3-room system. The successful candidate will join a team comprising a senior medical physicist, two junior medical physicists, a medical physics resident, a medical physics assistant, 5 medical dosimetrists, and a medical dosimetry assistant.
The larger Covenant Health Medical Physics Team includes 14 ABR physicists, 3 physics assistants, 14 certified dosimetrists, 3 medical physics residents, and numerous graduate students from the CAMPEP program at the University of Tennessee. Follows the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies. Documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
Completes and retains all pertinent maintenance logs and other records in a timely and orderly fashion for monthly review by Laboratory Manager and periodic view by regulatory agencies.
Reconstitutes and/or properly mixes calibrators, quality controls materials, reagents, consumables, and linearity kits per manufacturer instructions with precise equipment when required (i.e., pipettes, graduated cylinders, etc.).
Follows proper storage requirements of reconstituted materials.
Performs parallel testing of new lots and/or shipments of materials if indicated by laboratory policy.
Submits quality control data to corresponding agency if and when required per policy.
Performs high quality laboratory testing with speed and accuracy. Documents patient results.
Evaluates specimen quality (i.e., hemolysis, clots, icteria, lipemia, etc.) before testing as policy indicates.
Demonstrates knowledge to evaluate patient results to make decisions on validity of test results and makes decisions if reference laboratory validation testing is needed per laboratory policies and procedures.

Emergency Department:
At Parkwest Medical Center we strive to provide outstanding patient care during emergency situations. Our 39-bed Emergency Department provides care to patients experiencing medical emergencies, acute illnesses, and minor trauma. Staff work in a fast-paced environment to quickly assess conditions and stabilize patients in life-threating emergencies such as stroke, cardiac events, or severe injuries as well as less urgent medical issues. The Emergency Department sees around 140 patient visits per day.

Central Transport:
Central Transport provides patient transportation within the hospital. Transporters move patients between the emergency department, the inpatient floors, and diagnostic areas such as radiology, endoscopy, and cardio diagnostics. Transporters often discharge patients after their stay is complete. Our transporters are often the first employees a patient interacts with upon admission and the last as they are leaving. Excellent customer service skills and ability to put patients at ease are a must. Transporters also assist with equipment moves and will respond to patient codes to assist in the care of critically ill patients.
