The Medical Technologist is expected to use independent judgment to give the physician information to diagnose and treat illness. In addition, the MT is expected to consult with the physician about test results as needed. Follow the Laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results. Document all corrective actions taken when the test process deviates from the Laboratory's established performance specifications. Does not report patient results until all corrective action has been taken and test is performing as expected. Perform proficiency testing samples and maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency-testing samples are tested in same manner as patient samples. Adhere to Laboratory's quality control policies; document all control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Perform all quality control as outlined in the procedural manuals. Notify the Technical Specialist, Laboratory Manager, Charge Tech or Pathologist of out-of-control situations if problem cannot be resolved. Check Communication boards at least weekly. Plan work to insure maximum productivity with minimum amount of ‘carry over' work, while keeping overtime to a minimum. Act as resource person for phlebotomy, if trained appropriately, including outpatients. Review abnormal patient reports daily; normal reports weekly. Maintain and disinfect work area. Assist with coverage of the pneumatic tube system, processing and distributing specimens. Handle biohazard wastes according to policy. Assist in evaluation and validation of testing systems. We are also the region's leader in technology in areas such as bariatric surgery, robotic surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery. Our door-to-balloon times for heart attack patients are below the national average, and our hip fracture center offers advanced diagnosis, surgery and recovery procedures for hip patients. FSRMC Laboratory is a high volume lab with a family feel. FSRMC performs >2 million tests per year. Being a part of a large health system and being the primary reference lab for our system of 9 hospitals you will have the ability to see a wide array of patient and specimen types that can be challenging and exciting at the same time. Aside from the everyday tests that most labs perform we are also capable of performing mycology, antibody investigations in blood bank, infectious disease testing and many special chemistry tests.
