Program Progression takes part in phases:
Phase I - A unit-specific orientation with a focus on classroom theory, practicum, clinical time with an experienced preceptor, simulation, and hands-on skills learning. This mandatory phase varies in length depending on the unit and many overlap with Phase II.
Phase II - These classes focus on additional skills and specific transition to professional practice topics. Participation is mandatory; classes are offered at a variety of dates and times throughout the month.

Regular Plans coordinates and implements care to the adult patient in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the unit's standards of care and demonstrates competency skills appropriate to the clinical area.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs on the Cath Lab procedure team as circulator, scrub, or monitor.
Performs in holding by ensuring patient is correctly prepped for the procedure. Ensures needed information, such as history and physical (H&P), is timely.
Utilizes critical judgment to analyze patient assessment and administers medications on all patients, including the critically ill patient and reports abnormal information to the physician in a timely manner.
Performs hemostasis safely and properly with or without vascular devices.
Routinely enters patient orders and charges. Checks charges to ensure accuracy.
Provides care of the critically ill patient with the ability to function independently in a stressful situation.
Routinely educates patients and families based on assessed needs, documents education provided, and keeps them informed of tests and treatments. Provides clear patient instruction on what to expect during the perioperative procedure.
Assists families to the cardiology area or Cath lab area by escorting when necessary.
May perform point of care testing according to policies and procedures.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Regular This role is pat of the expert clinical team in the acute care area. Prevents clinical deterioration in patients outside of intensive care units. Leads the Critical Response team's initial assessment of critically ill patients and has the ability and clinical skills to assess and implement early interventions to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest, better facilitating the patient's transition to a higher level of care.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as the first level of support for the bedside nursing team when the condition of a patient is in question or jeopardy.
Educates and supports the bedside team in the evaluation and management of unstable patients.
Guides the bedside nursing team to help direct patient care.
Assists in determining when to escalate a rapid response.
Facilitates early and rapid transition of patients to a higher level of care.
Closely monitors patients who have recently transferred from the intensive care unit (ICU).
Utilizes available data from the electronic medical record and other sources to identify at risk patients. e.g. Deterioration Index, Sepsis score and other acuity scores.
Collects and maintains data related to Rapid Response and Code episodes to drive process improvement.
Participates in Ministry Rapid Response and Code debrief process and Regional Critical Response Nursing Team.
Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to critical care nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing
EXPERIENCE
Two years of registered nurse experience in critical care, emergency care or progressive care

Completes and documents a thorough and accurate PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) admission assessment and utilizes critical judgment to analyze patient assessment data to develop an appropriate plan of care. Implements a plan of care or care pathway to provide individualized care for each patient. Plan of care is based upon patient assessment, physician and anesthesia orders and preferences, and procedure specific criteria in a manner that is prioritized and timely.
Demonstrates and maintains knowledge and skills necessary to meet physical, psycho-social, spiritual, cultural, and age appropriate needs of each patient.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to perform all aspects of nursing care in both routine and emergency situations. Communicates changes in patient condition to physicians and necessary staff in a timely manner.
Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate administration of medications and treatments according to policy, procedure and protocol. Verbalizes knowledge and demonstrates consistent use and compliance for written protocols (i.e.; pain, conscious sedation, skin, restraint, abuse, parental bonding, etc.)
Evaluates and documents patient's progress toward achievement of outcomes. Meets discharge and ongoing patient educational needs related to treatment, procedures, disease process, equipment, medications, physician orders, and follow up care.
