Cpp, Inc. company history timeline

1925

1925 – W.K. Kellogg purchases 377 acres of land in Pomona to build the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Ranch.

1927

Nash Motor Company executive Charles Voorhis founded the original Voorhis School for Boys in 1927 with the mission of housing and educating underprivileged boys.

1932

1932 – Kellogg donates the ranch and horses to the University of California.

1936

1936—H. Jerry Voorhis is elected to Congress.

1943

1943 (Spring)—The Voorhis Unit closes due to World War II.

1946

1946—The Voorhis Unit reopens with an enrollment of 270 students.

1948

1948—The Army discontinues the Remount program and the Kellogg Ranch is transferred to the Department of Agriculture.

1949

Breakfast cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg deeded 813 acres of land located three miles south of the Voorhis campus to the state of California in 1949.

1956

In 1956, 508 students and 44 faculty and staff moved from San Dimas to the Kellogg campus.

1957

1957—Pomona students no longer have to go to San Luis Obispo for their senior year and graduation.

1958

Reese, H. (1958). The Kellogg Arabians: Their background and influence.

1959

1959—The block letters “CP” were placed on Colt Hill by the Poly Service Club (Phi Sigma Chi).

1966

1966: The World Civilization courses were created by David Levering, in place of western civ; CPP was one of the first universities to do this.

1975

1975: John Moore won Outstanding Professor Award

1979

1979: Anthony Brundage became chair.

1981

To respond to the needs of the commercial sector for a wind tunnel testing facility, Doctor Cermak and Doctor Jon Peterka, another leading engineer on the CSU faculty, co-founded Cermak Peterka and Associates (CP/A) in 1981.

1986

1986: Stephen Englehart became chair.

1991

April 22 - 25, 1991, students went to the polls to vote on increasing fees by $10 to expand the Union that students were growing out of.

1991: Donald Castro became chair.

1993

1993: US historians Richard Johnson, Judith Anderson, and John Moore moved from the discontinued American Studies department to become members of the History Department.

1994

1994-97: Tara Sethia received a multi-year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for directing two month-long summer institutes and a series of follow-up activities on India and China in Comparative and World History Perspective for K-12 Educators.

1996

1996: Elise Wirtschafter received a grant from the National Council for Soviet and East European Research (renamed National Council for Eurasian and East European Research). Her project was "State Building and Social Integration in Imperial Russia."

1998

1998: John Moore received a Lifetime Achievement Award, from the United Nations Association USA.

2000

2000:John Moore gave the commencement address for the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences.

2003

In April 2003 the former University Union was officially renamed the Bronco Student Center.

2004

2004: The Ahimsa Center was founded under the leadership of Tara Sethia.

2004-05: Mahmood Ibrahim received a National Endowment for the Humanities Grant/American Research Center in Egypt.

2006

Smith, Meaghan Colleen. (2006). Setting the standard: an evaluation of campus space at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

2010

2010:Amanda Podany became chair.

2012

2012:The Lloyd Award was created for best historiography paper, funded by alum Sean Yu in honor of John Lloyd.

2013

2013:Eileen Wallis won the Faculty Award for Civic Engagement.

2014

The BRIC is a 165,000 square foot complex that opened in September, 2014 to further enhance student life and engagement through the creation of a dynamic and exciting venue for the provision of recreational programs and additional student employment and internship opportunities.

2015

2015:Eileen Wallis became chair.

2015:Amanda Podany (pictured at right) received the Outstanding Advisor Award for CLASS.

2016
