Job Summary:

This individual contributor role is responsible for the structural analysis and design of utility transmission and distribution structures fabricated by the Valmont Utility Division, Steel Group. The engineer will handle full design responsibilities for quotes and orders, and provide general support to drafting and sales. Supports Drafting team to ensure design accuracy and timely order processing

We're seeking an RFID Applications Engineer Co-Op to join our business in North America during the Fall of 2026. You will be responsible for providing support for product engineers working on the development of RFID tags, printer systems, and RFID reader systems operating in the HF and UHF bands. You are expected to work in support of product development engineers. The work environment will be primarily an office or application lab. You will use various automated RFID test systems and RFID printer and reader systems. Work activities require an understanding of engineering disciplines and scientific processes sufficient to support testing, data collection, data organization, and reporting.
Our co-op program serves as a talent pipeline for our Early Careers Program throughout the organization.
What you will be doing
* Working directly with engineers and influencing product development and customer use case decisions
* Obtaining deep knowledge of RFID technology which can be a critical link for enabling the Internet of Things, Blockchain and Omni-Channel fulfillment
* Working as part of a technical team environment, with professionals trained on testing methods, critical thinking, data analysis and reporting in spreadsheets, and generating technical and customer-facing reports

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
* BS in MechanicalEngineering or related degree with the addition of mechanical design experience. Coursework, work experience, or strong proficiency in Thermal Engineering is highly preferred.
* 1 to 4 years of experience in a project engineer and/or design engineer role, or equivalency in co-op experience.
* Training on the use of 3D CAD software is required. Solid Works 3D CAD experience is a plus, as is experience with FEA and CFD software.
* New product development experience using a stage-gate type development process is preferred.
* Experience designing, sizing, and/or selecting electric motors for industrial equipment is a plus, as is experience with industrial controls.
* Development experience with pumps is preferred.
* Design and development experience with industrial rotating equipment preferred.
