The LPN is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the Oncology department. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with providers about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Performs accurate and complete assessment of patients; coordinates and ensures completion of interdisciplinary screenings and assessments; assesses and reassesses pain; assessments are age, culture and psychosocial appropriate.
Explains specialty procedures to patient/family; utilizes specialty equipment; assists physician(s) with procedures; utilizes other departments to provide interdisciplinary care as appropriate; utilizes pain management techniques.
Educates the patient/ family regarding treatment plan and follow-up instructions given per provider instructions including any education handouts.
Prepares and administers medications based on age / clinical condition of the patient per policy and nursing standards of care; manages supply of medications and contacts pharmacy as needed to ensure uninterrupted medication therapy.
Follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation; obtains and documents accurate and thorough patient medical history including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, identified health risk factors and other needed information.
Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols; maintains the security of the department.
Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.

BLS Required
Experience Requirements
LPN minimum 2 years Preferred
Oncology Care minimum 2 years Preferred

Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate multiple EMR programs

Oversees appointment scheduling and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timely flow of patients.
Greets patients and prepares them for physical examination. Screens patients for appropriate information including obtaining the health history, taking vitals, and conducting a nursing assessment. Documents obtained information in patient chart. Instructs patient in collection of samples and tests.
Responds to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician.
Educates patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.
Suggests solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints.
Maintains exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed.
Assures appropriate labeling of pathology specimens according to lab protocol as needed. Performs quality control and maintains records on all lab testing.

A Brief Overview
The LPN practices under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse, licensed physician, or other health care provider. The LPN organizes and directs those aspects of care for which he/she is accountable; communicating and coordinating care with well-defined nursing diagnoses, including all health team members.

Job Summary
The LicensedPracticalNurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for patients of all ages. Functions in a structured care setting and adheres to the policies and procedures established by Sanford. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Qualifications

Currently holds an unencumbered LicensedPracticalNurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges. The RN is responsible for providing professional nursing care within the Emergency Department. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with ER physicians regarding changes in patient's status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Performs accurate and complete assessment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department; performs head-to-toe systems assessment per policy; assesses and reassesses pain; assessments are age, culture and psychosocial appropriate.
Formulates a plan of care based on patient needs, modifies the plan of care based on patient outcomes; formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning to include: educating the patient/family regarding treatment plan and providing discharge planning/instructions.
Accurately assigns triage categories; monitors hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interprets results; identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.
Prepares and administers medications based on age / clinical condition of the patient; starts intravenous/intraosseous lines for medications and fluids.
Assesses the effectiveness of pain medications; revises plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment as appropriate.
Ensures documentation is complete, accurate and timely; prepares the patient record in both electronic and chart form.
Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols; maintains the security of the department.
Answers patient call lights promptly and courteously; inquires about patient needs prior to leaving room. Observes and reports any changes in condition or behaviors exhibited by patients.
