Summary:
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) delivers rapid-response, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency department setting. This role involves assessing patient conditions, implementing urgent care plans, administering life-saving treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, efficient, patient-centered care in critical situations. The ER RN demonstrates strong clinical skills, exceptional critical thinking abilities, excellent communication under pressure, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions:
Rapidly assess and triage patients upon arrival, prioritizing care based on the severity of their condition
Explain emergency procedures and treatments to patients and families
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved emergency nursing techniques and protocols
Prepare equipment and aid physicians during emergency treatments and examinations
Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout their time in the emergency department, responding to immediate needs
Observe and document patient conditions as required within scope of practice
Take and monitor vital signs using clinical judgment to address deviations and prevent complications
Respond to life-saving situations based upon emergency nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
Document comprehensive nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR)
Initiate patient education plans according to individualized needs, considering the acute nature of emergency care
Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, specialists, paramedics, social workers and other support staff to ensure comprehensive care
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills

Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail

Lecturer of Mathematics

This is a full-time, ongoing, lecturer teaching position located at the University of Maine at Machias campus. The successful candidate is expected to serve on the Machias campus of the University of Maine.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credits of math courses each fall and spring semester in support of the general education curriculum, and other majors requiring specific quantitative skills. Courses will be a combination of algebra, precalculus, calculus I and II, applied statistics, and non-majors math. Courses will be taught primarily in-person, though asynchronous, and/or distance synchronous courses may be required depending on student needs. Courses are often taught in coordination with instructor teams from UMaine Orono.
In addition to instruction, this person will be expected to participate in service to the Machias campus through committee work and student advising.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a compliance monitoring position that involves inspections covering the distribution and use of pesticides. Inspections focus on pesticide retailers, farmers, structural pest control operators, lawn care companies, aerial applicators, vegetation management specialists and other pesticide applicators. Responding to tips and complaints is also a priority. The successful applicant must be able to interview retailers, applicators and complainants that are upset; gather information and evidence; complete inspection forms; write narrative reports; interpret complex regulations; and assess findings to determine compliance. The successful applicant must also have good organizational skills and strong attention to detail. When not in the field conducting inspections, the applicant must be able to do administrative work at their home office. The position includes the use of a state vehicle with paid gas.
Experience/knowledge about pesticides, agriculture, residential and commercial pest management are a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution which includes 15 credit hours of science or engineering courses -OR- a four (4) year combination of education and experience in an environmental science or related area.
Preference will be given to those who have experience with compliance inspection.
