The Senior Regional Credit Officer (RCO) manages Busey's Commercial Approval and Underwriting Processes for the regions they support and oversee. The Senior RCO serves as a credit resource for business lines as well as working with senior management on corporate initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Develop sound new borrower relationships, monitor the portfolios and associated risk and assure systems are kept current and accurately reflect portfolio risk.
* Complete counseling and consulting on the analysis and structuring of requests to best align risk with the banks policies and risk tolerances.
* Communicate regularly and establish good working relationships with the commercial banking teams they support, including regularly scheduled attendance at team meetings, visits to remote offices to facilitate open dialog and early inclusion in the credit process and client calling efforts.
* Facilitate timely and succinct credit analysis and loan structure with deference to policy for new requests and renewals of existing relationships including timely credit decisions.
* Working with the pipeline, the RM's, Underwriters, and Credit Analysts, the SRCO will gain early entry into the credit process to best counsel and influence new credit requests in line with the organization's risk tolerance and policy.
* Ensure proper loan grading - regulatory grades and PD/LGDs all need to accurately reflect the current performance of the borrower and therefore risk to the organization.
* Complete field exam review, audits, loan reviews and exams, ALSR review and approval, non-accrual and charge off forms, TDR review process.
* Organize and supervise a team of Credit Officers and Commercial Underwriters providing guidance and oversight in producing timely and accurate credit recommendations while maintaining adherence to credit policy and banking regulations.
* Work closely with the Regional Presidents to manage the workflows and maintain timeliness of underwriting needs for both existing and new relationships.
Education & Experience
Knowledge of:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Comprehensive knowledge of the overall departmental function, including expert knowledge in Busey's Commercial/Credit line of business

Education and Training:
* Requires Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Business or Finance; advanced degree preferred.
* Requires 10 or more years of Commercial Credit experience with prior single signature approval authority.
* Requires 8-10 years' experience in a progressive management/leadership role.
* Requires proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Benefits and Compensation
Salary offered is based on factors, including but not limited to, the job duties, required qualifications and relevant experience, and local market trends. The role may be eligible for bonus or incentives based on company and individual performance.
(Base Pay Range: $150,000 - $215,000/year)

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities include;
Maintain a robust governance framework to ensure product changes-especially Non-QM and Jumbo-are assessed for credit and operational risk, with decisions thoroughly documented
Develop, write, and revise lending technical documentation, including policies, procedures, forms, and quick-reference guides for Non-QM products
Conduct in-depth analysis of Non-QM credit policies and make informed recommendations regarding underwriting strategies and product alignment
Review and update product matrices regularly, ensuring accuracy for Non-QM and alternative lending programs
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on Non-QM credit policy topics to promote consistency across underwriting and sales teams
Act as the primary point of contact for internal inquiries related to Non-QM credit exceptions, investor overlays, and regulatory guidelines
Research industry trends and emerging risks in the Non-QM space, evaluating best practices in credit risk management
Collaborate with Product, Underwriting, and Compliance teams to align new or revised Non-QM products with credit policies and risk tolerance
Communicate credit policy updates professionally and clearly to support organizational transparency and enhance brand credibility
Complete special assignments as directed by management
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor degree
Work history: 7-10 years of mortgage underwriting experience, with at least 5 years in Non-QM and Jumbo products
Deep knowledge of Non-QM guidelines, investor overlays, and alternative documentation programs (bank statements, DSCR, asset depletion, etc.)

Work directly with the Funding department and DRMs to resolve credit and verification issues that arise during funding.
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior associates within the department.
Maintain confidentiality of personal information for consumers, including, but not limited to, Social Security numbers and dates of birth.

Work directly with the Funding department and DRMs to resolve credit and verification issues that arise during funding.
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior associates within the department.
