1883

Crescent Foods Inc. is a Seattle-based spice and seasoning firm which began in 1883 -- under the name Crescent Manufacturing Company -- as a small supplier of vanilla extract.

1894

The Crescent Machine Company was founded in 1894 as a general machine shop by founders Elmer Harrold and Clint Wilderson of Leetonia, Ohio.

1896

Ad appearing in the March 1896 issue of "Carpentry and Building" magazine showing the design of Crescent's larger 32-inch band saw.

1897

After the discovery of gold on the Klondike River in Canada in 1897, the company expanded rapidly by selling a spice-and-preservation packet popular with the gold rushers.

1898

Agency HistoryOriginally known as the Fremont Metal & Manufacturing Co., Frank Nagle and Cyrus Grett, two Fremont, Ohio entrepreneurs, established the business in 1898.

1899

1901

1905

In 1905, Crescent struck gold itself when a company chemist and salesman concocted an imitation maple flavoring dubbed Mapleine.

1909

Advertisement from the July, 1909 issue of "Carpentry and Building" detailing the "Crescent Variety Wood-Worker."

1910

1945

In 1945, Crescent was sold to the Pittsburgh Equitable Meter and Manufacturing Company, which later became the Rockwell Manufacturing Company and the Crescent line was merged into the lines of other Rockwell owned woodworking machinery manufacturers, including Delta and Red Star.

1953

Crescent has gone through many hands since being sold to Stamets in 1953.

1957

In 1957, Crescent bought out Gold Shield Coffee and its line of nuts.

1970

By the 1970's sales had surpassed the one million mark with millions of blades being produced under such names as Surgical Edge, Mystery Edge, and Extra Duty.

1979

Since 1979, Crescent Manufacturing Co. has experienced several changes in ownership.

The Squib Corporation in 1979 purchased the company, later selling the business to Dubin Clark & Co., a private investment firm in Chappaqua, New York.

1987

IntroductionThe Crescent Manufacturing Company records were donated to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in 1987 by a resident of Fremont, Ohio.

1990

In 1990, Crescent Foods consolidated its three Seattle-area facilities (including a factory, laboratory, and warehouse) into one 105,000-square-foot space in a Kent office park.

2005

Sometime in 2005, the company once again changed names and/or merged with Alloy Machining.
