Four sisters left Ohio in August of 1860 to start the school, and St Cecilia Academy opened its doors for classes on October 4, 1860.
1860 Bishop James Whelan, O.P., the second Bishop of Nashville, asked Dominican Sisters from Somerset,Ohio to establish a school that could provide an excellent faith-based education for young women.
1861 During the summer of 1861, the Civil War began.
1862 St Cecilia Academy had its first graduating class, which included Nellie Doyle and Sallie Shipp.
1904 As time went on, the sisters continued to acquire more land.
1923 The sisters bought 92 acres of land on Harding Road for $180,000, and grazed cattle on it while the plans for the campus were being decided.
1957 St Cecilia Academy moved to the Harding Road location.
Since it first opened in 1970, Nashville State Community College has been a vital part of Nashville.
1976 Ground was broken on the new library, theater, and fine arts wing.
In 1984, Nashville State joined the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) system of state universities and community colleges.
That's causing dealerships to brace for a slow start in 2002.
In 2002, the Tennessee General Assembly and the Governor expanded the mission of Nashville State to a comprehensive community college.
2007 St Cecilia Academy’s production of the Beauty and the Beast was named the best high school musical in Tennessee by the USA Weekend, a confirmation of the consistent excellence of SCA’s drama and fine arts programs.
2010 St Cecilia Academy celebrates 150 years of educating young women.
Fall 2017 marked the opening of the East Davidson campus in the Donelson community of Nashville.
The North Davidson campus is expected to open in spring 2022.
