189 was absorbed into the Crete-Monee District 201-U when Crete united with Monee in 1948.
Since its completion, its previous building, built in 1954 on an adjacent property, held the Crete-Monee Sixth Grade Center on its main floor.
Only two years after the new high school was built, plans were formed in 1956 for an addition to the school.
The wet heavy snow began falling early Thursday, January 26, 1967 and kept falling for twenty-nine hours.
The new dome built in the same design with new features was referred to as the ‘same, but different’. The first public gathering in the new dome was the senior class graduation ceremony on June 6, 1968.
The new 326,000 square foot school has room for 2000 students with 1500 attending the first year.
On April 14, 2005 the school district closed on the purchase of the site for the new high school which would serve the residents of Crete, Monee, and University Park along with the unincorporated areas of Crete and Monee Townships.
Ground breaking for the new school took place on October 30, 2006 at the west end of the present Crete-Monee High School football field.
Students and faculty were excited to start school in their new glass and brick building on September 6, 2007.
