Summary for Crew Member Executes duties under the direction of the Captain, to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel. Assist the Captain in monitoring vessel systems and troubleshooting problems. Interact with passengers and perform customer service duties. Provide passenger safety while underway and always maintain an impeccably clean & safe vessel. Interact with passengers by answering questions and helping with specific requests. Operate a galley and gift shop which includes food preparation, snack service, retail presentations, and the sale of local retail products. Student Life & Leadership is currently recruiting baristas to operate the only student-run coffee shop on campus, Seawolf Grounds, located in the Student Union! Baristas offer high-quality coffee products and customer service to students, staff, faculty, and the general public, but they also learn valuable skills and gain hands-on experience while working on campus. Baristas serve as members of the Student Union staff and can be cross-trained on Information Desk duties. Prior work experience as a barista, in customer service, and in sales and cash handling is preferred but not required of candidates for this position. Skills that would be needed are the ability to perform customer service with training, ability to handle sales and cash with training, ability to prepare coffee and other beverages with training, ability to carry out assigned tasks and projects with supervision, and the ability to exercise patience, focus, and understanding in stressful situations. Other skills and experience that would be helpful are knowledge of office equipment, personal computers, copiers, and scanners.
