Brody Snackshop/Concession Attendant
Participate, oversee and assist student staff in the preparation of “short order” style food items in the retail food service venue in Brody Sparty's, assist with ordering, receiving and inventory of food and supply items; participate, assist and direct student staff in proper sanitation of unit; oversee and assist in proper handling and storage of food and supplies to ensure efficiency of operations and reduce waste and spoilage; operate a cash register as needed and maintain controls for transaction during assigned shift; oversee and assist in the cleaning of dishes, utensils and work areas according to prescribed sanitary standards.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If you have an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of your normally scheduled work hours remotely, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Working knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques is necessary.
Two years satisfactory experience at the Food Service Worker level or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience is necessary.
Some willingness to work a flexible shift is necessary.
Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations is necessary.
Some overseeing and cash handling experience is desirable.
Occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
Desired Qualifications
Three years employment experience in Residential and Hospitality Services; commitment, desire and passion to “deliver outstanding Spartan experiences” daily; ability to perform simple tasks following oral and written instruction; familiarity with the proper use and care of food service equipment or the ability to be trained to do so; knowledge of computerized register or ability to be trained to use accurately.

What You Will Do

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Food Service Worker, you will perform routine meal preparation and ensure the sanitation of work and serving areas at Delaware Valley Veterans' Home. You will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, work surfaces, and other kitchen items. You will also prepare trays, measure portions, serve food, and transport trays and carts. This position requires frequent use of common kitchen equipment, such as mixers, dicers, slicers, knives, and grinders. Under general supervision, the SO-04 Lead Food Service Worker will serve as a role model for the team by assisting with the preparation, delivery and presentation of food items as well as coordinates work assignments, monitors food productions and assists with operating the register in a variety of Dining unit(s).
Likely daily tasks include:
* Interacting directly with customers and serve as a role model for other staff members through regular support and mentoring.
* Assisting with the coordination of work assignments, including their own, for the preparation, presentation and/or service of various food items at a variety of stations to ensure timeliness and customer satisfaction
* Assist in processing sales transactions including cash, check, credit, and meal plan card transactions and ensure established security procedures are followed. Tabulate daily cash and credit card transactions for accuracy and to prepare for deposit.
* Maintaining cleanliness, stock levels and organization of their assigned areas
* Assisting with maintaining portion control that is specified and help maintain production sheets by recording amounts of food prepared, served and left over in a standardized service line worksheet
* Ensuring that sanitary, HACCP, and NY State Health codes and procedures are maintained in assigned areas including, but not limited to, temperatures, safe handling procedures, proper sanitary restraints and uniforms.

Required Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of relevant experience related to food service, barista or cash handling or an equivalent combinations of education and experience. Basic proficiency in English involving reading, writing, math and verbal articulation.
* Must be able to lift 30 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. (minimal). Must be able to reach over your head, stand for long periods of time, occasional squatting, frequent bending, and conduct repetitive motion, such as chopping, stirring, and mixing. Must be able to withstand frequent/continuous exposure to temperature changes and a variety of environmental and sensory impacts , including but not limited to cold, heat, steam, smoke, slippery floors, and food waste areas.
