Job Description The Crew Chief, PFS is responsible for assisting with plant operations by leading and directing the production crew in the day-to-day activities. The Crew Chief, PFS also ensures a safe/food safe environment, leads sanitation of equipment, assists with inventory management, completes production paperwork/transactions, and performs required quality inspections. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES · Set up and operate various production equipment and use computer controls to adjust programs, settings, parameters, etc. · Motivate and create a positive work environment through training, line corrections, and support · Responsible for completion of process control and administrative paperwork required per shift · Maintain and support procedures and tracking for sanitation, GMP, and HACCP standards · Maintain building/equipment via proper operations, cleaning, and preventive maintenance; take accurate measurements using applicable tools and equipment · Assist manager with conflict and problem resolution and/or properly escalate issues to management · Understand, train, and follow all safety, quality, sanitation, and production/operating procedures to make a high-quality product in a safe and food safe manner · Trouble shoot problems effectively to prevent downtime · Meet production schedules under direction of Production Manager · All other duties as assigned ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS This position reports to the Production Manager and interacts with other production departments. Forest Preserve District of Cook County Under the supervision of the Resource Supervisor, Senior Resource Technician or designee, assists in the removal of plant material related to ecosystem management projects. Assists with tree removal, tree pruning, stream clean-up and storm damage clean-up throughout the District. Assists with maintenance of trail surfaces, trail corridors and the installation and maintenance of trail signage. Assists with performing prescribed burns on District lands in accordance with prescribed standards, and undertakes activities involved in the prevention or suppression of wildfires. Collects seeds and assists in propagating plants; prepares areas for planting, sows seeds, and plants native vegetation for ecological restoration. Applies herbicides to control invasive plant species in accordance with prescribed standards. Assists with fisheries and wildlife management projects. Assists with special events at various sites Districtwide. Works closely with Volunteer Resources staff on various projects and assists with providing guidance and direction to volunteers. This is a full-time, union position. Typical Duties Participates in work activities supporting ecosystem management projects and the maintenance of natural communities on District lands. Ability to read maps and utilize electronic tools such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to locate work sites. Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and represent the District in a professional manner. Ability to maintain grounds and equipment and make minor repairs to various types of tools and machinery used in restoration vegetation management. Ability to obtain any additional certifications and licenses deemed appropriate by the District for this position.
