What your day in this role might involve at OC Colfax:
The primary purpose of this position is to safely perform the necessary job duties associated with the operation of the Finger Joint machine. This includes but is not limited to feeding, tailing, learning and assisting operator during changeovers and chopping cutbacks. This is a versatile position within the finger jointer and requires organizational and communication skills and a growing knowledge of all sizes and grades of finger joint blocks and blanks.
* Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Must abide by all safety processes in the rough mill. Must always wear proper PPE. Must ensure that all guarding is in place and good condition before executing any task.
* Must gain knowledge of the entire finger joint production process and associated machinery.
* Must strive to achieve maximum lug loading efficiency.
* Must maintain constant communication and take direction from the rough mill lead, machine operators, and supervision.
* Must be self-motivated and be able to perform the duties of this position without close supervision.
* Must maintain excellent housekeeping skills.
* Must maintain an acceptable attendance record.

About the Role
The Crew Member (Asphalt) is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair on Greensboro's street infrastructure. Work includes hands-on field operations involving heavy equipment, asphalt repair, concrete work, ditch maintenance, and seasonal programs such as snow and ice removal.
Key responsibilities include:
* Operating job-specific equipment such as single-axle and tandem-axle dump trucks
* Laying asphalt and pouring concrete
* Shoveling, raking, and luting asphalt
* Cleaning and maintaining shoulders and ditches
* Operating equipment during the Snow & Ice Removal and Loose-Leaf Collection Programs
* Working safely in and around traffic and heavy machinery
* Following verbal and written instructions accurately
This employee will be assigned to the Snow & Ice Removal Program and will be subject to working 12-hour shifts during winter or other weather-related events. This employee must have good attendance. The physical requirements duties include: standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to (50 pounds). Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. This employee must obtain a Commercial Driver's Permit within 30 days of employment and obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within 120 days of employment and a reliable means of contact such as home or cellular telephone to remain in this position.

The Ember Alliance is hiring 2 seasonal, 6-month prescribed fire crewmember positions in Troy, NC. The Prescribed Fire/Fuels Module crewmembers will play an integral role in restoring habitat and reducing wildfire risk in central North Carolina. This position will participate in the day-to-day operations of a module focused on aiding partners on prescribed fire and natural resource management projects. The position is predominantly in the field, in potentially difficult environmental conditions such as hot and humid or cold weather, loose footing, and steep terrain. Crewmembers will be required to pass the Arduous Work Capacity Test. Candidates should have a passion for increasing the pace and scale of prescribed fire on public and private lands, increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community, and building skills and confidence for fire practitioners from all backgrounds and experience levels in an inclusive and supportive operational environment.
A successful candidate will have a passion for developing prescribed fire and wildland fire skills and experience, the ability to embrace adversity and uncertainty, and a clear commitment to working with diverse populations in an inclusive environment. The position will primarily focus on natural resource management in the field in a team setting. The duty location is Troy, NC, but work site locations will vary.

This position will require assisting with implementation of prescribed fire on public and private lands. A successful candidate will show enthusiasm for working with the public and demonstrate proficiency and professionalism while on private property. The module will assist in project work or other duties as assigned by partners when not participating in prescribed fire operations. These projects may include timber stand improvement, trail maintenance, invasive species removal through chemical and mechanical methods, and wetland restoration.
Responsibilities
Participate in prescribed fire operations or other work as assigned by agency representatives, including but not limited to tree planting, treatment of non-native invasive plant species, campground cleanup, trail maintenance, ecological surveys, and timber stand improvement (TSI)
Must participate in best practices to reduce the spread of COVID-19
Complete prescribed fire operations at the direction of the Burn Boss to implement safe, moderate complexity prescribed burning
Operate chainsaws, hand tools, hose lays, backpack sprayers, portable pumps, engines, and other equipment on prescribed fire operations and fuels reduction projects
Maintain crew supplies, equipment, and vehicles as directed
Travel for extended periods of time and work outside of normal business hours
Attend partnership meetings, informational field trips, and trainings for professional development to build knowledge and skills in the field
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, including a commitment to principles of Duty, Integrity and Respect
Actively participate in creating a kind, safe, and healthy work environment which encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion of all people
Employee may be required to participate in prescribed fire implementation, suppression, or training up to level of current qualification, on as needed basis as determined by supervisor

Up to 25% of the position may require extended overnight travel. Projects may require working during weekends and/or up to 14 days continuously, traveling for extended periods of time, remaining overnight near project locations, and working outside of normal business hours with limited notice.
This is an at-will, 6 month seasonal position with potential to extend for additional months if funding is available. Start date is in early January 2025. Weather permitting, burn season activities will start in January, with a probable shift towards project work in April.
Housing
Housing, selected by The Ember Alliance, will be provided at no cost to the crew, in Troy, NC. Housing is paid for by The Ember Alliance and considered a benefit for crew members and leaders. Housing consists of furnished crew apartments with individual rooms for crewmembers. Employer-provided housing is not required should candidates live locally.
