Amentum is seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer to work remote (location flexible). Candidates will obtain site specific Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Analyst Qualification to support implementation of a DOE Approved Nuclear Criticality Safety Program in an operating non-reactor nuclear facility.
Job Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance to operating organizations.
Collaborate with operating organization personnel on NCS evaluations as the lead NCS Analyst.
Perform independent reviews of NCS evaluations.
Conduct periodic reviews of fissionable material operations.
Lead and/or participating in NCS response to programmatic issues and criticality process deviations/infractions.
Participate in NCS emergency response preparation (emergency procedures, plans, exercises, and drills).
Independently prepare, review, and/or present technical reports to the criticality safety community (e.g. American Nuclear Society, etc.).
Conduct NCS training for all levels of employees involved in fissionable material operations.
Assist in the development and/or review of new or proposed changes to existing NCS programmatic policy and implementing documents.
Lead and/or participate in assessments and audits of the NCS Program.
Mentor of less experienced Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Analysts and Analysts In-Training on all aspects of criticality safety.
Development, revision, and review of Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documentation such as Criticality Safety Evaluations (CSEs), Nuclear Criticality Safety Design Analysis, and Calculations (DACs) and various other NCS technical basis documentation.
Complete required NCS annual Operational Reviews.
Daily nuclear facility support; consisting of facility walkdowns, review of NCS requirements, implementing documents, participation at facility Operational Safety Boards, etc.
Required Skills/Abilities
Bachelor's degree in nuclear, engineering, math, or science with minimum of 1-2 years of Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) experience is required (Nuclear Engineering degree preferred) or 7 years of equivalent technical experience in place of a B.S.
Experience in Approach to Critical (e.g., NCSP Hands-On Criticality Safety Course) preferred.
DOE-specific experience is highly preferred.
Candidate must be a US citizen.
Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
Demonstrated keen attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
Position will work closely with site management in RD&E and other EHS staff to drive environmental, safety and health programs, ensure regulatory compliance and promote continuous improvement.
Ensures proper investigations of accident / incidents conducted for EH&S events and drives corrective actions. Act as liaison with regulatory authorities for safety requirements.
Track and trend EH&S related legislation and take appropriate action to comply with requirements. Communicates EH&S issues to all necessary management and employees. Generates necessary reports and documentation. Lead the investigation into accidents and provide feedback to relevant parties for corrective action.
Review and report EH&S progress and performance for assigned site/function.

The Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering designs for nuclear steam supply systems at operating boiling water reactor plants. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:
Develop cost effective solutions to complex engineering problems for new or improved plant components and system-level analyses.
Develop drawings and specifications to assure products can reliably meet all engineering and quality requirements.
Ability to provide emergent customer support on as needed basis.
Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE Vernova Hitachi engineering procedures.
Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related area from an accredited college or university
Eligibility Requirements:
The preferred work location for this role is at the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
