The Special Education Teacher will participate in all steps of the IEP process. They will work closely with other teachers and special education professionals to ensure that the school's special education program is successful and operating in compliance with federal and state regulations. Key Responsibilities of the Special Education Teacher:
Manage and provide instructional guidance, virtual teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students requiring direct and/or indirect services;

Job Goal:
The teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom and plans, implements, and evaluates student learning experiences designed to address a wide range of maturity and skill levels. The teacher helps students develop language, social, cognitive, and motor skills and also encourages parental involvement. Student learning and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The classroom teacher must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and researched based effective teaching, intervention, and behavior strategies.
Note:
Position requires successful completion and periodic renewal of state mandated and service center training requirements (e.g., communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, and/or behavioral management training).
Performance Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety of students.
Demonstrates a focus for student learning, with appropriate learning objectives that include measurable goal(s) for student learning aligned with the Ohio standards.
Instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
Employs a variety of formal and informal assessment techniques to collect evidence of students' knowledge and skills and analyzes data to effectively inform instructional planning and delivery.
Demonstrate thoughtful preparation for each class by constructing clear, detailed and timely lesson plans. Ensures that lesson plans reflect appropriate, differentiated academic content consistent with students' IEPs and state standards.
Provides an educational program for students as defined by the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Effectively use technology to support high quality instruction and student learning.
Plans and sequences instruction to include the important content, developmental concepts, and processes in school and district curriculum priorities and in state standards.
Demonstrates familiarity with students' background knowledge and experiences and describes multiple procedures used to obtain this information.
Work collaboratively with intervention, related services, and support service staff to accommodate and/or modify the curriculum as necessary; and to assist with research-based and evidence- based interventions to ensure student learning goals are met.
Supports the learning needs of students, through a variety of strategies, interventions, materials, and/or developmental pacing that make learning accessible and challenging for each student.
Maintains positive rapport with students and demonstrates respect for and interest in all students.
Creates routines and procedures that run smoothly throughout the lesson, and students assume age-appropriate levels of responsibility for the efficient operation of the classroom.
Provides substantive, specific, and timely feedback of student progress to students, families, and other school personnel while maintaining confidentially.
Complies with district, Federal and state laws, model policies and procedures, rules and regulations for the education of students with disabilities. Ensures paperwork is accurate, all timelines and deadlines are met (annual reviews, progress reports, etc.), maintains confidentiality, strictly adheres to HIPPA and FERPA, respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality of privileged information. Submits reports on time. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
Lead the preparation of and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for classroom students meeting eligibility requirements. Completes paperwork accurately. Verifies and correctly enters data.
Trains and collaboratively works with assigned paraprofessionals.
Evaluates student achievement/performance and prepares periodic progress reports utilizing appropriate assessment and data collection methods to assess academic and social performance and to inform instruction and progress.
Collaborates with staff to develop and implement behavior improvement plans. Charts behavior as required.
Schedules home visits when appropriate to support program goals.
Adapts to unique circumstances and factors such as travel, extended hours, student behaviors, lifting/transferring students, etc.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable rules of behavior and procedures for the classroom to maintain order in a fair and just manner.
Uses effective communication strategies with students and families and works effectively with colleagues to examine problems of practice, analyze student work, and identify targeted strategies.
Meets ethical and professional responsibilities with integrity and honesty. The teacher models and upholds district policies and state and federal regulations.
Sets data-based short and long-term professional goals and takes action to meet these goals.
Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Maintains appropriate preschool licensure requirements set forth by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
