CT registry eligible within one year. Advanced certification in CT within one year of becoming CT registry eligible. Current unrestricted license in state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Preferred - Advanced certification in CT by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of CT procedures and technical language. Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure. Ability to be self-directed and to function without direct supervision. Ability and willingness to have and maintain flexibility in work duties and hours (may require flexible schedule such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, etc.) and travel throughout and between facilities. General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and the hemodynamics of blood flow in relation to the various disease states. Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on nationally published criteria. Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance. Job Duties Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy. Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care. Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding. Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including placement of IV). Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards. Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted. Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.). Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. The technologist reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports. The understanding of IV's, heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Computed Tomography is demonstrated, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers. Equipment Maintenance: An orderly, safe and clean state environment is maintained, and rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required with supplies readily available for procedures at all times. Imaging and other related equipment is operated according to manufacturer's specifications and performs daily calibration and adjustments as required and evidenced by exam results. Equipment is troubleshot effectively and immediately and reports equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports. The need for routine maintenance of all CT equipment is recognized/performed to maintain consistent quality images, as evidenced by the physician and the exam results. Documentation/Communication: Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies. Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports. The technologist participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiative, in-services and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records. Radiation safety: Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies. Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports. Reports to Supervisor or Manager. 1 year of experience Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program Current State License; American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R); Computed Tomography, CT; Basic Life Support BLS - HCP Clinical skills Exhibits working knowledge of all CT equipment and procedures. Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated. Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history. Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center. Documentation/Communication Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials, other duties as assigned. Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage of the CT Department Assist in other areas of the department as workload permits. Keeps areas well stocked at all times.
