Reviews patient records for orders, exam history, lab work, and allergies, and positions patients on the scan table. Establishes I.V. site for contrast infusion and administers oral, rectal and I.V. contrasts. Consults with Radiologist prior to administering I.V. contrast for bolus I.V. injections. Monitors patients during injection for evidence of contrast reaction. Enters patient and exam data into x-ray computer system and performs computed scan images. Prepares reports and maintains records of service rendered, using the radiology department computer system to verify billing and quality assurance. Completes incident reports and anesthesia records when necessary. Reports all technical problems to the supervisor or senior technologist. Assists Radiologist with interventional procedures such as biopsies and drainages. Informs Radiologist of scan results when anomalies or abnormalities are visible. Schedules patient exams and revises daily schedules to accommodate emergency exams from MedSTAR, ER, and other units. Cleans and maintains an aseptic working environment for each patient. Films CT scan images and archive exams onto tape or optical disk. Ensures adequate supplies are available and is responsible for replenishing supply levels. Assists in the training and orientation of new employees and students. Completes all required information system functions to assure proper patient information, billing, exam, and other necessary functions are correctly entered and maintained. Qualifications: Associate degree or one to three years formal training in Radiologic Technology. Completed competency-based training in CT. 1-2 years job related experience. Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel. Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements. Interviews patient and explains magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Positions patient on examining table following protocols requested by radiologist. Enters data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into the computer. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Monitors patient safety and comfort and views images of area being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
