Description: Independent worker weekends This job as a part of a multidisciplinary team assumes responsibility for the operation of the heartcatheterization laboratory suite. Operates diagnostic fluoroscopy and various types of cardiac equipmentmonitors patient vitals performs routine calculations circulates and assists the physician during theprocedure upon request. Prepares the procedure rooms equipment and patient for the procedure. Job Duties• Assist the team in patient setup and prep before the procedures and take down/clean up post-procedure using safe patient transfer and positioning techniques• Documentation in procedure log to reflect accurate procedure and interventions to ensure accurate billing and charge capture• Operates radiographic fluoroscopy equipment to obtain diagnostic images of coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease Hemodynamic monitoring of patient during procedure and reporting values to performing physician• Monitors delivery of radiation dose to patient to achieve safe delivery with minimal exposure to staff.• Transmit archive and retrieve digital images in picture archiving and communicating systems PACS• Performs quality control standards by using the optimum diagnostic imaging and performing regular maintenance of fluoroscopy equipment.• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population including but not limited to respect for privacy method of introduction to the patient adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed requesting permissions and communication style.• Performs other related duties as assigned.• The above statements describe the general nature and level of work only. Responsibilities * Clinical skills: * Radiologic principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes are demonstrated utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or position for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam results. * Policies and protocols are adhered to ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by exam results. * Radiography students are taught sound radiography principles as required by Organization as evidenced by documentation. * Patient/General Safety: * Effectively communicates with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results. * Procedures are explained to patients/families and technologist answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction. * Assistance is provided to the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique, as evidenced by physician's satisfaction. * Clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams are identified and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction. * Patient safety is demonstrated in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as evidenced by risk management reports. * The technologist reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports. * The understanding of IV's, heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Computed Tomography is demonstrated, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers. * Equipment Maintenance: * An orderly, safe and clean state environment is maintained, and rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required with supplies readily available for procedures at all times. * Imaging and other related equipment is operated according to manufacturer's specifications and performs daily calibration and adjustments as required and evidenced by exam results. * Equipment is troubleshot effectively and immediately and reports equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports. * The need for routine maintenance of all CT equipment is recognized/performed to maintain consistent quality images, as evidenced by the physician and the exam results. * Documentation/Communication: * Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies. * Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports. * The technologist participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiative, in-services and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records. * Radiation safety: * Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies. * Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports. * Other duties as assigned: * Acts as a backup for other technologists in the department as needed. * Additional duties are correctly and appropriately completed within the specified time frame as required by managers/supervisors.
