Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

Summary:
The MRI Technologist operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to produce high-quality 3D images used in medical diagnosis. They interact directly with patients and administer intravenous injections of contrast dye as needed and collaborate with healthcare teams to provide accurate diagnostic results. MRI Technologists are responsible for maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring patient-centered care throughout the imaging process.
Essential Work Functions:
Screen patients for MRI safety and contraindications prior to procedure, ensuring compliance with safety protocols
Educate patients on MRI procedure and answers questions if they arise
Maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot MRI equipment to ensure proper functionality and report any malfunctions
Start I.V.s and administer contrast media per orders and protocol, monitoring patients for adverse reactions
Monitor image quality during procedures and make adjustments to scanning parameters for optimal diagnostic results
Document all procedure details, including imaging parameters and patient observations, in compliance with hospital policies
Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare providers to ensure accurate diagnostic imaging and timely delivery of results

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an AMA approved, accredited School of Radiologic Technology or an Education in Radiologic Technology from an approved program in the U.S. Military required.
ARRT in Radiography and MRI within 90-days of transfer or hire required.
CPR Certified required.
If employed in the Cognitive Neuroscience department, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of transfer or hire required.

MRI Technologist Description:
Perform quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures under the supervision of a qualified radiologist, to ensure accurate and appropriate imaging information for use in diagnosis and treatment. A Brief Overview

Essential Functions

Coordinates MRI examinations to ensure quality and continuity of care. To this end, may be asked to schedule inpatient, outpatient, and emergency MRI examinations as necessary.
Assumes MRI emergency call responsibilities on a rotational basis
Archives MRI images appropriately, i.e. PACS.
Maintains accurate documentation for departmental and hospital records by recording neatly, accurately, and completely.
Provides accurate and sympathetic instructions to patients and family members regarding the examination process. Explains the procedure(s) in words that are understood.
Responsible for screening patients for contraindications that may be hazardous to their health and safety. Relates contraindications to radiologist for direction.
Participates in training and orienting new employees and students as assigned.
Actively participates in quality assurance and performance improvement in MRI.
Keeps a current knowledge regarding technical developments, trends and techniques in MRI procedures and equipment. Maintains registry and licenses, through appropriate journals, workshops and seminars. Attends department meetings and educational in-services.

Understands and follows all rules around radiation protection including wearing of lead protection when utilizing fluoroscopy or when there is a possibility of exposure i.e. CT room, performing portable exams etc.
Obtains clear and complete history from the patient and or patient record and records that data into patient record to assist in image interpretation and future patient encounters
Is able to perform quality assessment of images obtained and is able to evaluate equipment issues and reports assessment to supervisor, manager or director.
Ensures all equipment is in working order at the beginning of the day and prior to starting of a procedure. Performs any performance and quality tests on equipment as required including ACR quality requirements. Checks all supplies for outdates prior to use and reports any shortages, variations or failures of equipment to supervisor, manager or director for follow-up. Uses CHI incident reporting system to report any patient injuries or concerns, equipment or supply failures or malfunctions, medication reaction or errors, and visitor or personal injury or exposure.
Responsible to participate in and have a good understanding of all department, campus and system quality improvement projects, the ACR accreditation process, Radiation Safety, ALARA, MQSA, and State Regulations as
they apply to staffs license or certifications. Be familiar with the requirements of CMS and Joint Commission and be able to speak to all department processes around quality and environment of care.

Graduate of a Radiologic Technology program upon hire Required
Licensure and Certifications
Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) - Required Upon Hire
Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT (RTR) - Required Upon Hire
Medical Radiographer: IA (MRAD:IA) - Required Upon Hire
Registered Technologist Computed Tomography (RTCT) - Required within 24 months
