Job Summary:
Operates equipment and performs diagnostic and therapeutic CT procedures on patients according to established protocols to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Follows established policies and procedures set by the department, hospital, state, ACR, TJC, and OSHA.
Key Accountabilities:
Performs diagnostic computed tomography procedures by selecting correct exposure factors, algorithms and scan fields while utilizing the assessment of patient age and diagnosis to produce a technically accurate cross sectional images to assist the radiologist in diagnosis and treatment.
Participates in complex invasive CT exams by assisting the radiologist in performing the procedure using proper sterile technique and producing CT images in order to provide therapeutic and diagnostic services.
Some may start intravenous sites, assess existing sites and inject intravenous contrast according to established protocols to assist the radiologist in diagnosis.
Practices radiation safety through appropriate use of shielding, correct exposure factors and field sizes while adhering to radiation safety standards in order to protect patient and staff and to comply with regulatory agencies and requirements.
Maintain the CT equipment in good operating order. Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use. Maintain work area in an orderly manner. Report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisor.
Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients with regard to the patients age, condition or other special requirements.
Assess physicians order and patients requisition for completeness by reviewing the requisition, pertinent laboratory results and the patients chart to ensure the correct procedure and protocol is performed.
Documents pertinent patient and exam information and stores computerized images onto an archive media for future reference or retrieval.
Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing. Set up films properly in PACs system. Accurately inputs data in the RIS by tracking actual procedure in order to capture all charges and other relevant information.
Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs in preparation of reports and correspondence.
Performs and documents weekly quality assurance testing on equipment according to established protocols to maintain high performance of the system.
Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining and understanding of policies, procedures, and the clinical competency process (in order to evaluate student growth and competence in performing radiographic procedures).

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the MRI Managing Director and Reception Supervisor, performs duties required to support the clinical and business operations of the MRI department and the medical practice ensuring services are provided in a professional, timely and courteous manner. These duties are performed in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations governing the privacy and security of patients' PHI (Private Health Information).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Greet and properly identify patients
Support MRI Technologist by preparing patients for imaging.
Understanding of the health screening questions, and possible risks associated with MR exams.
Review Safety questionnaire with patient to ensure safety compliance
Provide and explain exam and preps to patients utilizing knowledge of MRI safety to resolve patients' questions or concerns.
Screen every patient to verify safety using MRI manufacturer guidelines, including but not limited to Gauss/Cm, magnet strength, placement and duration of all implants.
Cleans dressing rooms after each patient to ensure safe clean environment.
Prepares the imaging room for the next patient to maintain efficient work flow.
Trained in MRI safety level II, and BLS as required by ACR.
Ensures safety of each MRI patient and medical staff while in the high magnetic field environment.
Maintains exam room and dressing room supplies
Maintains cleanliness of imaging room and control room to ensure a positive and clean environment for patients and staff
Act as liaison between patient and other staff, including medical assistants, physicians, physician assistants, administrative assistants, etc.
Maintain excellent communication with technologist and patients regarding wait times or physician delays.
Demonstrates the ability to react to a potentially dangerous "quench" situation
In the event of a medical emergency, removes the patient from the MRI exam room and demonstrates knowledge of what steps to take.
Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
Rotate and cover each MRI location based on operational needs, which may include a shift or hour change.
Maintain patient confidentiality
Other:
Maintain patient confidentiality; Comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management, and other computer software, as it relates to job functions.
Attend regular staff meetings and continuing education sessions, as requested.
Typical Physical Demands:
Work may require sitting for long periods of time, and also stooping, bending and stretching for f supplies. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, copier, and such other office equipment, as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. Position also requires viewing computer screens and typing for long periods of time.

Location: Wilton CT
The MRI Technologist will perform MRI exams in accordance with exam procedures and protocols using independent judgment to ensure optimal diagnostic quality and exceptional patient care. The technologist will also be responsible for assisting Radiologists with special procedures such as arthrograms, reviewing all necessary documentation related to the procedures, and setting up patients, operating equipment, and performing related clinical and administrative duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs MRI procedures as ordered achieving a high level of quality and timeliness.
Escorts patients to treatment room and assists with dressings as necessary.
Completes all paperwork necessary to ensure timely delivery of MRI services.
Explains MRI procedures to address patient concerns and questions.
Administers I.V. contrast.
Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
Completes related paperwork and obtains interpretation by radiologist.
Conducts quality control measures to monitor machine performance and reports all malfunctions and/or need for adjustments to the site manager.
Focuses on customer service and uses courtesy and poise when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors to maintain a professional atmosphere.
Education and Experience:
Associate Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ARRT (R) (MR) certification and Connecticut licensure required.
1-2+ years of clinical experience in all MRI procedure types.
Siemens, GE experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs CT and special procedures.
Receives orders for designated CT or special procedures. Discusses protocols and procedures with radiologists to assure proper interpretation of orders. Reviews information from patient's records; i.e. known allergies to IV or oral contrast media, previous barium studies, medication being used by patient and pertinent information used to achieve best possible images. Checks for previous exams.
Enters designated patient data into the computer, chooses appropriate examination protocols and sets equipment for proper technique, model/type of exam, speed of scan, level of cross-sectional scans, etc. Completes all such preliminary tasks prior to patient's arrival to minimize patient's time on the table.
Uses laser beam to check proper positioning and centering of patients. Attaches required immobilization and supportive devices. Obtains "scout view" on console to assure images will contain areas to be studied. Arranges the patient in the proper position for procedure.
Manipulates equipment to enhance images and produce appropriate exposure. Utilizes knowledge of anatomy and physiology to detect abnormal patterns in images and uses independent judgment to obtain scans required to make proper diagnosis. Carries out special manipulation of display data, reformats to produce axial slices and creates an endless variety of plans and exposure angles, plotting of dynamic vascular or circulation studies, rapid scanning, high resolution review, segmentation, etc. Prints hard copies of images for permanent patient records and transfers scanning data from equipment to laser disk.
Administers contrast media.
Loads syringe with prescribed dye for hand or power injection. Maintains sterile techniques when preparing contrast media.
Administers medications and adjusts power injector to coordinate timing of scan with administration of medication.
As appropriate, sets up sterile trays for special procedures and assists Radiologist with such.
Maintains radiation safety.
Maintains radiation exposure level to minimize patient exposure. Protects visitors and general public from unnecessary radiation exposure.
Arranges appropriate radiation protective devices so as to minimize radiation.
Maintains communication.
Explains procedures to be performed to each patient. Gives preparatory instructions. Provides reassurance to anxious patients.
Maintains constant communication with patient via intercom system.
Reads reports to authorized staff over phones. Answers inquiries and provides requested assistance on matters dealing with Radiology, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and MRI services.
Maintains communication with radiology to ensure proper protocol on each patient.
Provides a high level of customer service.
Occasionally deals with uncooperative patients and/or distraught family members.
Exercises charged responsibility as required.
Assumes charge responsibility for section as required. Provides direction and assistance to technologists and support staff. Distributes work assignments.
Reviews film for quality and readability and takes steps to assure that quality control standards are met.
Ensures a high level of quality control.
Performs daily quality control test on equipment including calibration checks, checking camera and film, cleaning film processor, etc. Brings computer "down" to resting stat to conduct designated testing procedures.
Assists nuclear physicist with test for equipment efficiency and safety. Works with manufacturer to arrange monthly preventative maintenance and/or emergency repairs.
Participates in preparing reports required by various federal and state agencies.
Performs related duties.
Monitors and observes patient's condition and brings any unusual circumstances to attention of supervisor, nursing staff or radiologist. Initiates emergency procedures, within authorized limits, as required.
Completes all required forms, records and reports concerning number and types of procedures performed.
Assists clerical support staff with patient scheduling, recording, keeping and related tasks.

CT Supervisor Responsibilities
#1 : Leadership
Overseeing Daily Operations: Managing workflow, assigning tasks, and ensuring that procedures are done efficiently and correctly.
Training and Mentorship: Assisting in the training of new staff, providing ongoing education, and mentoring less experienced technologists
Ensuring Compliance and Quality Control: Making sure all safety protocols, regulatory guidelines and quality assurance standards are met.
Scheduling and Staffing: Responsible for coordination shifts, managing time-off requests, and ensuring that the department is adequately staffed. Also, schedules staff to minimize the use of overtime.
Problem solving and Decision making; Handles issues that arise during procedures, troubleshooting equipment and making quick decisions in high pressure situations.
Communication and Collaboration: Acts as a liaison between technologists, physicians, supervisors,multidisciplinary staff and other departments. Communicates with clarity and composure.
Patient Care and Advocacy: Ensuring that patients receive proper care, maintaining their safety and addressing any concerns or needs they may have.
Process improvement: Identifying areas for operational efficiency, implementing new techniques and contributing to overall departmental improvements.
Inventory and Equipment Management: Monitoring and maintaining supplies and materials. Making sure that the equipment is in good working order, and managing repairs or replacements needs.
Reporting and documentation: Maintaining accurate records of procedures, incidents and other data and reporting to higher management as needed.
Participating in the hiring process and performance evaluation.
Delegates duties to appropriate unit personnel as necessary.
Reviews revenue and expenses on a monthly basis (budget compared to actual) and recommends areas of growth and areas to reduce expenses if needed.
#2 : Quality
Establishing and enforcing Protocols- Develop and maintaining standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy in imaging practices.
Quality Assurance and Control:Regulatory monitoring and evaluating imaging procedures, equipment performance and image quality to maintain high standards.
Maintains ACR accreditation, licensure, certification and QA requirements for the department, and maintains all records as needed to verify that regulations are being maintained at all times.
Staff Competency and Training:Ensuring all technologists are properly trained, certified, and up- to- date on best practices and new technologies.
Ensures the services are in compliance with all regulatory standards, including but not limited to JCAHO,CMS,and DEP. As required by JCAHO, completes competency checklist on each employee during the annual evaluation process.
Staying informed about the latest research and advancement in radiology and incorporating them into the department practice to enhance care quality.
#3: Compliance/Safety
Equipment Maintenance:Regularly scheduling and documenting equipment maintenance, inspection, and calibration to ensure safe and effective operation
Patient Identification and Verification- Ensuring strict adherence to patient identification protocols to avoid errors, such as wrong-site imaging or incorrect procedures.
Incident Reporting and investigation-Overseeing the reporting of safety incidents, conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrence.
Ergonomic Safety and Infection Control- Promoting safe lifting techniques and proper mechanics among staff to prevent injuries while moving patients or equipment. Enforcing protocols for sanitizing equipment, maintaining sterile environments and adhering to infection control guidelines to prevent the spread of infections.
#4 : Patient Care
Ensuring Patient Safety: Overseeing the implementation of safety protocols, including proper positioning and screening of patients prior to any exam.
Patient Education and Communication- Explaining procedures, answering questions and addressing patient concerns to ensure they understand what to expect during imaging exams.
Quality of Care and Patient Comfort: Ensuring all technologists maintain a high standard of patient care by following protocols and best practices during imaging procedures and maintaining patients comfort by providing blankets and positioning aides.
Ensuring Timely Care- Coordination with other departments to minimize patient wait times and streamline workflows, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of care.
Addressing any patient complaints or issues swiftly, ensuring that their experience is positive while maintaining a professional relationship with staff. Reviews feedback from patients and makes necessary adjustment to improve satisfaction
Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma and two-year accredited program in Radiologic Technology
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
Radiologic Technologist registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, (ARRT) and licensed in the state of Connecticut. Advanced certification in CT is required.
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital. Radiation Safety annually; all other mandated programs as they occur.
Special Requirements:
Registered Radiologic Technologist I, advanced certification in CT, at least one year experience in CT, and licensed in the state of Connecticut.
Physical Requirements:
On feet most of the day with lifting greater than 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 35 lbs. routinely. Physical agility including but not limited to bending, stooping, walking, reaching, standing, pulling, pushing and twisting. Hearing and sight corrected to normal. Ability to verbalize so the average person can comprehend. Manipulates CT equipment and data input. Assesses patient's response to medication and procedure.
Work Environment:
Worker must adjust to performing routine and repetitive tasks. Employee may frequently be exposed to blood, body tissues or fluids; hazardous waste materials; bodily injuries and unpleasant noises. Cognitive Requirements:
Individual must be able to see objects closely and far away and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given over long periods of time. Worker must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow.
