A Mechanical Designer typically works on one project at a time (typically creating new designs that are very close to reference designs).     Job Description Mechanical Design Engineer This position provides design efforts from inception through production, both in new product design and in existing product redesign. Essential Functions Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings, and other applicable specifications to determine the requirements and/or feasibility of the component. Perform all necessary calculations, such as stress analysis, performance analysis, pressure drop and flow analysis, etc., as required. Develop 3D modeled designs with supporting documentation including drawings, BOMs, and other associated data to support manufacturing processes. Prepare preliminary design proposal(s). Interact with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost-reduction ideas regarding company products. Perform liaison between engineering and all manufacturing operations for related issues, problems, or improvements. Define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns. Participate in engineering and general design review as required. Refine and complete designs after design review meetings. Prepare proposal documentation. Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, component maintenance manuals, etc. Interact with customers on engineering design to meet customer specifications and support answering any questions/problems they may have. Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to the company. Coordinate as required with internal groups, including purchasing, quality control, sales, production, accounting personnel, metal finishing, and assembly. Advise Supervisor of work status, workload, problems, and progress related to work assignments. Consistently adhere to assigned work schedule, ensuring punctuality and reliability. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Skills Required Mathematical skills, including advanced calculus, statistics, and other math subjects to analyze and design. Creativity in working with design problems. Technical skills include Solid Works, Draft Sight. Analytical thinking to identify problems, troubleshoot, and develop design solutions. Time Management to prioritize tasks, make and adhere to deadlines, and create timelines for completion. Communication to listen, process, and understand design requests and explain technical matters. Teamwork to collaborate with other engineers, draftsmen, and manufacturing employees. Ability to work independently on projects from start to finish. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. Compliance with all safety rules and guidelines. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a positive team attitude. **Education and Experience requirements ** Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent from four-year college. Four or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
