Cushing Academy company history timeline

1875

Cushing opened in September 1875 with a coeducational student body: 66 boys and 56 girls.

1913

The statue is now located near the entrance to Cushing. It was designed by Bela Pratt and was donated to Ashburnham by local businessman Ivers Whitney Adams in 1913.

2005

In 2005, female students designed and created a schoolgirl statute.

2009

In 2009, Cushing made headlines for its plans to spend $500,000 transforming the Fisher-Watkins Library into a learning center with e-readers, e-book database subscriptions, flat-screen televisions, laptop-friendly study carrels, and a coffee shop.

2015

In 2015, Cushing Academy celebrated its sesquicentennial with several events and the publication of a commemorative magazine.

2017

In 2017, Cushing began a 5-year strategic plan, Embracing Our Legacy and Positioning For Our Future, with the view of developing a stronger and more sustainable future for Cushing Academy.

2022

The end of the 2022 academic year signals the completion of this Plan and the progress made would not have been possible without the deep commitment and generosity of all who have supported and invested in Cushing Academy.
