Perform a variety of custodial duties at NASA Langley in an efficient and effective manner under the supervision of a crew leader, supervisor, or Project Manager. This work will be performed at the Langley Research Center. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of essential functions below is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this job. Other duties may be assigned based on business needs. Perform custodial work in occupied and unoccupied buildings according to the specified contracted methods of cleaning. Cleaning responsibilities include: removal/disposal of trash cleaning of offices including dusting, vacuuming, carpet spot removal, and/or sweeping. cleaning of restrooms including mopping, disinfecting, cleaning mirrors, partitions, toilets, and sinks. stock paper and soap supplies. Vacuum, mop, wipe down walls in cleanrooms. Select cleaning products, mix and measure chemicals as required. Properly dispose of any hazardous waste material. Maintain supplies and equipment under established procedures. Set up and break down furniture for special events. Ensure unoccupied areas are secured after cleaning. Loads and unloads custodial supplies and equipment on trucks, transports equipment and materials to other facilities. Report to management when any scheduled work could not be performed or completed. Responds to emergency calls after-hours and on weekends. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No minimum experience required. Must be able to pass a background screening for access to the work areas. Able to pass a Motor Vehicle Background screening and have reliable transportation. Must pass a pre-employment drug test. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior custodial work experience. Qualified to work under the Ability One Program. In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: General knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in custodial work. Must be able to work harmoniously in a team environment with a diverse workforce. Completes assigned work on or before deadlines in accordance with prescribed procedures. Accepts supervisory instruction and direction and strives to meet the goals and objectives of same. Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by applicable agencies. Attends work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides adequate notice for time-off requests. Work at a reasonable pace for the job duties assigned and physical ability. Able to follow basic instructions and respond to common inquiries with or without reasonable accommodations. Reasoning Ability: Able to identify issues or problems, evaluate and draw valid conclusions. Attentive to detail for quality performance. This position is part of a union and subject to the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This position does require the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, and prolonged standing. Will involve lifting/moving up to 40 pounds. General Cleaners Hourly Non-Exempt Reports to: Team Leader/Area Supervisor/Area Team Leader Summary of Job Duties & Responsibilities: Performs custodial work in offices, warehouses, industrial areas, and other building interiors. Typical tasks performed include a combination of the following: Sanitizing restrooms, empties trash, sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, and vacuum cleans and spot cleans carpets. Dusts and spot clean walls and polish all stainless steel i.e. water fountains fixtures. Dust blinds. Dust cabinets, furniture, partitions and desk tops. May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, walls, upholstery and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. May also sweep walk ways. Performs other duties as assigned by management. 1. Set up carts & brut barrels; reline brut barrels with small &large liners. 2. Pull trash from offices change liners, wipe desk tops as you pull your trash 3. Vacuum all offices and close doors after areas are done (able to lift 45 lbs) 4. Detail section each night 5. Restroom cleaning 6. Set cart-up replenish supplies 7. Replenish, toilet tissue 8. Empty trash (including sanitary boxes) 9. Toilet, urinals, sinks, clean thoroughly 10. Clean all walls by wiping 11. Wipe clean all stainless steel 12. Sweep floor under toilets urinals 13. Wet mop floor 14. Use air freshener 15. Restock cart for next day 16. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. 17. Must be able to handle difficult situations and persons in a positive and professional manner. 18. Must be able to follow directions 19. Must be reliable and responsible. 20. We are currently accepting application or resume' for the following position opening: SECTION 3 CUSTODIAN Position Summary This position reports to the Property Manager and is responsible for the daily general cleaning, sanitizing and appearance of the housing development(s) to which he/she is assigned. Immediate supervision is received from the Property Manager, Maintenance Supervisor or his/her designee. Position Description Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes and vacuums in office and hallways, as appropriate. Keeps offices, common areas and restrooms clean and sanitary. Replaces light bulbs; maintains parking areas, entranceways, sidewalks and common areas free of trash and debris; empties trash receptacles; may move furniture and load/unload supplies. May disseminate information, i.e. newspapers, flyers and notices throughout specified areas. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of Custodial duties will be performed outside. Observes all safety rules and regulations. Job duties, responsibilities, specifications, and other job aspects may be changed as needed; performs other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Knowledge of appropriate methods, materials and equipment to be used in custodial work. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as buffers, vacuum cleaners and other custodial equipment. Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions and exercise good judgment and initiative. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others. Must be generally available for occasional after-hours and weekend activities. In the event of emergencies, must be accessible, preferably by phone or other effective means. Promotes a positive image of the Authority by establishing and maintaining to the greatest extent possible a viable and positive working relationship with residents, co-workers, local agencies and all appropriate agencies of the City with which the Authority may come into contact. Physical Requirements Use of hands/fingers to handle or feel - Sufficient manual dexterity to allow operation of a variety of custodial power equipment and tools. See - Ability to observe, identify and recognize details at close range. Stand or Sit - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Walk, move and traverse Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, crawl and climb a ladder, etc. Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl - Constantly positions self to perform the essential functions of the job duties. Move, transport, position, install, remove - Frequently moves items weighing up to 50 pounds across areas for various needs. Experience and Training Any combination of education and experience necessary to carry out oral and written instructions. Previous custodial experience required.
