Custodian
Supervisor: Shelter Manager
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Wage: $24.50 hourly

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In coordination with all facility staff, provide custodial and laundry services, including basic maintenance support, to ensure a clean and safe environment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
CUSTODIAL DUTIES:
Assure the facility is maintained in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.
On a daily basis, clean and inspect offices, bathrooms, floors, stairways, and common areas. Empty trash containers.
On a regular basis, or as requested:
Clean air vents at least monthly.
Wash, dry, and fold house laundry, including bedding; launder bedding for up to 200 beds weekly at full capacity and perform daily laundry as needed.
Wax and buff floors at least once a month.
Clean/replace shelter lights as needed.
Wash windows as needed.
Unclog toilets, sinks, and replace user-accessible parts.
Clean outside of building and adjacent sidewalks.
Perform basic repair and maintenance services.
Work independently during non-operational hours while coordinating with program management and site staff to ensure custodial needs are met, including support with special projects as needed.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE:
Participate in the Agency Safety Committee as one of the site Safety Captains.
Assist program and safety leadership in completing required safety tasks.
Responsible for labeling and storing of cleaning chemicals properly in accordance with the applicable Safety Data Sheet.
SUPPLIES, INVENTORY, AND MAINTENANCE PLANNING:
Submit necessary work orders to maintain facility in the optimum manner.
Maintain storage areas in clean, safe and orderly manner.
Develop and follow a monthly maintenance schedule. Evaluate building needs semi-annually.
PROGRAM AND FACILITY SUPPORT (AS NEEDED):
As needed, prepare spaces for incoming clients/residents, assist with food box preparation, etc.
As necessary and appropriate, document events in Wellsky or other database system(s).
Working with volunteers, assist with donation processing.
Other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Each Transition Projects employee must:
Acquire First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire and be retested biannually thereafter throughout employment.
Complete Bloodborne Pathogens and Narcan Training within 30 days of hire and be retested annually thereafter throughout employment.
Demonstrate reliability by being present for work as scheduled, arriving and leaving on time and taking breaks in expected time frames.
Interact effectively with persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
Attend agency and program staff meetings.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree or higher in a related field OR 2 years of consistent work experience (in any field) AND demonstrated understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness; chemical dependency; domestic violence; and sexual assault
Demonstrated ability to perform custodial work.
Ability to perform basic maintenance and repair tasks on equipment and facility.
Skills in use of basic tools and equipment.
Familiarity with safe use of cleaning chemicals.
Basic level computer literacy (adequate for posting entries into client-services database).
Ability to maintain inventories of supplies and equipment.
Ability to work with other staff in performing joint tasks and developing work systems.
