Set up tables, chairs, etc. for school meeting, games, dances, and any other events. Report any damage to school property and report maintenance needs. Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed. Follow established schedule. Load and unload supplies and equipment. Completed minor repair work as needed. Sweep exterior walkways and remove snow as directed. Relieve, assist, or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by supervisor. Know location, proper care, and use of all firefighting equipment. Maintain security of the classroom and buildings. Check to make sure all doors are locked, windows are locked, and buildings are checked for fire hazards. Assist with routine maintenance during summer months. Report any trouble or problems relating to the heating or cooling systems immediately. Clean all tools, supplies, and equipment after each use and store in their proper place. Secure the building at end of shift. Perform light maintenance duties according to capabilities or as directed. Fill in as Building Engineer on a temporary basis in the absence of a Building Engineer. Carry out all other duties as assigned. Scrub, hose down and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside as instructed by the principal or head custodian. Keep the grounds free from rubbish. Perform such yardkeeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. Clean all chalkboards and erasers. Make such minor building repairs as requested. Report major repairs needed promptly to the head custodian. Maintain on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing. Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property. Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during nonschool hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal. Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and determine, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and requisition, such needed replacements from the principal, far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in sufficient time as to not hinder the duties of the custodian. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair. Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. Clean all trash cans and replace liners daily. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste. General Statement of Job Keeps University buildings in a clean and orderly condition, supports Special Event activities, and performs other assigned duties to support the operations of the Physical Plant and the University community by performing the following duties. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties: Performs routine cleaning and maintenance functions in assigned area using departmental techniques and standards to include such tasks as: Cleans and sanitizes restrooms daily: floors, fixtures, mirrors, doors, etc. Replenish restroom supplies. Job Description As a Cleaning Technician, duties will range depending on the clients' needs and scope of service. Assigned facilities can include classrooms, offices, student housing, as well as any other facility or space owned or maintained by the University, including outdoor space. Duties and Responsibilities of Position 40% - Office, classroom and facilities maintenance Vacuums, bonnets and extracts carpeted areas using automatic equipment. For instance, the use of an extraction unit that requires proper set-up in terms of chemical mix and mechanical adjustment to perform properly. Uses dust tool to clean tile floors. Wet mops stains and spots on tiled floors, using pail method and semi-automatic scrubbers that require knowledge, skill and ability to set-up. Empties trash, cleans containers and replaces liners (special care is required in research and lab areas to avoid needle pricks or chemical exposure, etc.). Certain locations in which this work is performed requires attention to bio-hazards and special chemical treatment of surfaces is required. Dusts furniture, blinds and other surfaces. Cleans and maintains specialty floors such as wood, cork, quarry tile etc. in high profile buildings. Improper use of equipment or chemicals can dull and /or permanently damage floor surfaces. Proper use of cleaning chemicals is necessary to avoid potential bio-hazardous situations to the worker and occupants of the building. 10% - Supplies, chemicals, and equipment maintenance Equipment used ranges from hand tools to sophisticated high-speed mechanical/electric burnisher, scrubbers, and dry/wet vacuums. It is necessary to clean and perform daily maintenance on all equipment. Maintains clean, organized and stocked supply closet. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Chemicals used are sometimes volatile and represent a wide range of disinfecting and cleaning jobs and applications. Staff must be knowledgeable concerning chemicals uses/purposes, mixes and safety issues. MSDS sheets area available for each chemical and staff must comprehend and rely on these sheets to avoid injury to self, others in the building, and /or costly equipment.
